Angers Catholic University of Western France founded their center for the teaching of French in 1947. The Centre has grown to become a highly regarded institute of French studies for foreigners. With an annual enrollment of some 2,000 foreign students from 40 countries, the Centre offers a French student "moniteur" to aid in arrival at the train station and adjustment to an international community without racial, religious, political, or national prejudice. Language lessons for all levels are complemented by a wide range of optional courses. All staff agrees that "total immersion" in the French way of life is the best way to learn and so they organize opportunities to meet French students and local families, as well as sightseeing trips, sporting and cultural activities.
