Amazing time in Medellin
August 25, 2026by: Amelia Bartlett - United KingdomI had the best time, the accommodation was really good and social activities made it easy to meet other interns and explore the city. Mari and Marián were always so friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend this experience! :)
Would recommend to anyone!
August 25, 2026by: Bruce Matthews - United StatesMy trip to Medellin was so valuable to me. So glad I went with The Intern Group. Housing and events were perfect, and I really liked the way they ran it. You get to go on multiple trips and many social events and are able to make friends and form connections with a variety of people from different backgrounds.
Once in a Lifetime Opportunity
April 01, 2026by: Maggie Trail - United StatesI had an incredible time interning in Medellín for two months with a company called Conaltura, a leader in sustainable construction and real estate across Latin America. The people I met were warm, driven, and open, I made lasting friendships, and will take a multitude of fun memories back home with me. I can’t recommend Medellín enough. The city has a contagious momentum, a lively arts and music scene, fresh food, great weather, and biodiversity unlike anywhere I’ve ever visited. I felt both supported and challenged by this experience, many thanks to the Intern Group and Mariana. XOXO

A vibrant, heartwarming and impactful experience interning in Colombia
February 17, 2026by: Eva van Stekelenburg - NetherlandsMy internship working for the government in Colombia was an incredibly meaningful and intellectually enriching experience. I had the opportunity to work on research related to the environmental treatment of gold mine tailings from the Bajo Cauca region, an issue that sits at the intersection of environmental sustainability, public policy, and regional development. From day one, I felt welcomed by my warm colleagues. The organization provided a strong balance between autonomy and guidance, allowing me to conduct in-depth research as well as discuss issues with the head if mining at the office. It was a phenomenal, tangible experience. The work was both challenging and impactful, as it addressed real environmental concerns affecting communities in Antioquia. I couldn't have wished for better! Alongside doing research my colleagues also made sure I always joined them to the food markets and try their local cuisine, they made me feel so at home. My research into solutions for gold mine tailings (including environmental remediation strategies, regulatory frameworks, and sustainable mining transitions) gave me insight into how local governments navigate complex socio-environmental issues. It was especially valuable to see how policy, science, and economic realities must align to create viable long-term solutions for regions like Bajo Cauca.. Beyond the technical knowledge I gained, the internship deepened my understanding of governance in Latin America and the role of regional institutions in driving environmental progress. Medellín itself is also such a vibrant, dynamic and innovative city, which made the experience even more inspiring. I highly recommend this internship to anyone interested in environmental policy, sustainable development, or public sector research. It is an opportunity not only to learn, but to contribute to meaningful change. Would go back in a heartbeat.
Thank you for sharing such a wonderful reflection. Eva! We’re so glad your experience in Medellín was both intellectually enriching and personally meaningful. Contributing to environmental research impacting communities in Bajo Cauca is no small achievement, and it’s great to hear how supported and welcomed you felt by your team. We’d happily welcome you back anytime!
Medellín will be seeing me again !!

More than just an internship
September 04, 2025by: Richard Hart - New ZealandInterning in Medellín for 12 weeks through the Intern Group was a wonderful experience. While the internship itself was not the most demanding of placements, I still gained valuable insights into a different industry, and it was a great way to experience the work culture of another country and meet local people. Whatever shortfalls there were in the actual internship itself, they were well and truly made up for by the cultural learnings and the social connections made through the program. Huge kudos to the Colombia Intern Group team for always looking out for all the interns and organising so many social activities to get to know other interns and to feel right at home in a new country.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts, Richard! It's amazing to hear you enjoyed your time in Medellin and gained valuable professional insights at the same time. We're looking forward to seeing how your career flourishes!
I thought I was going to hate it, I was so wrong, I loved it
September 04, 2025by: Elizabeth Rogers - CanadaAs the title said, after completing all the sign up requirements I questioned why I was doing it. I had such extreme homesickness before I even left, but being in Colombia was the best thing for me. M & V were the best, I made real friends with the other interns and I got to go and have an experience I would have never considered for myself. Colombia is beautiful, the people are amazing, being back home now I miss it and my friends so much. This experience was worth it.
Thanks for sharing, Elizabeth! It's amazing to hear you enjoyed your time in Colombia so much and your nerves were quickly eased by the fantastic people in Medellin and our on-the-ground team. We can't wait to see you continue to develop professionally following this experience!

BEST DECISION I’VE EVER MADE
August 27, 2025by: Gabriella Goring - United KingdomI loved every day of my internship, the events at the workplace and those organised by the intern group were incredible. I felt welcomed and encouraged to learn, interact and grow as a person and professional. I couldn’t have asked for a better supervisor than Marianna, who taught me so much about Colombia, organised fun cultural events and encouraged me to do some exploring on my own. I always felt I could come to her with any problems and questions, which made the transition into a totally new country and culture exciting. The city was electric with so much to see and do, so many creative passionate people to connect with. The landscape is breathtaking, a definite highlight was exploring the smaller neighbouring towns with gorgeous nature walks, waterfalls and natural pools. I would 100% recommend an internship in Medellin- learn some spanish, eat absolutely everything! and just be one with your surroundings. I found people were excited to share their culture when you make the effort to learn and truly listen to them. I am so grateful for this experience and the person I have become because of it.
It looks like your time in Colombia was amazing, Gabriella! Thank you for sharing your experience - we're glad to know you enjoyed your internship placement, cultural activities, and felt so supported by our team. We're wishing you all the best for your future!

Eye-Opening Experience Abroad
August 06, 2025by: Abhijay Edavalapati - United StatesInterning abroad was truly life-changing. I immersed myself in a new culture, learned to adapt to unfamiliar situations, and built deep connections with people from around the world. Every day brought something new: whether it was trying local food, exploring historic landmarks, or engaging in meaningful conversations. I grew personally, academically, and professionally. This experience expanded my worldview and gave me a greater appreciation for cultural diversity and independence. I highly recommend going abroad to anyone seeking growth, adventure, and unforgettable memories.
Thank you for telling us about your experience in Colombia, Abhijay! It sounds like your time in Medellin was incredibly enriching and rewarding in so many ways. We're looking forward to seeing you continue to flourish personally and professionally!
Treated like family
August 05, 2025by: Matthew Davidorf - United StatesI had the pleasure of securing an internship through the Medellín chapter of The Intern Group and will be forever grateful I did so. The work was great, and the group was really brought together by the organization’s wonderful on-the-ground team. Vale and Mariana cared about each of us like family and ensured everyone had the best experience possible, no matter the comfortability level out of our native countries. I cannot emphasize and recommend the quality of this program enough :)
Thank you for sharing, Matthew! It's great to hear you enjoyed your internship placement in Colombia and felt supported by our on-the-ground team. We can't wait to see where you go from here!
An incredible experience!
March 27, 2025by: Shannen Barns - New ZealandFrom the professional growth, the cultural insights, to the friends I made, my time in Medellin was one of the most incredible experiences of my life! I gained many transferrable skills during my internship and made many connections that will be valuable in my future career journey. The Intern Group organised many different cultural activities, so there was always something to do on weekends. We explored the city and went to nearby towns like Guatape, to get a fully rounded Colombian experience. I loved learning all about the language, the food, the traditions and the way of life here. Medellin itself is a beautiful city, surrounded by mountains and full of lush greenery. There is something for everyone here - whether you like the outdoors, food, or parties, Medellin has it all! Mariana was fantastic as well, always going above and beyond her role as Experience Coordinator to make sure we had everything we needed and felt safe and supported. I will always look back on my time here fondly and recommend an internship in Medellin to anyone who wants to step out of their comfort zone and have the best time!
Thank you for sharing your experience in Medellin with us, Shannen! We loved hearing how much you enjoyed Colombia and gaining transferable work skills and exploring a new culture. We're also thrilled to know Mariana was such a positive part of your experience too! We're really looking forward to seeing what you do next and how you develop professionally and personally following this experience. We're wishing you all the best for the future!
Great Time in Medellin!
January 11, 2025by: Zia Meyers - United StatesDoing an internship in Medellin, Colombia was one of the best decisions I ever made! I met so many great people both professionally and personally, and still keep in touch with many of them today. I was able to explore things I would've never expected (like the Amazon Rainforest) and got to do it all while furthering my career and getting invaluable experience working with an organization in a different culture and environment.
Thanks for sharing your experience of Medellin, Zia! It's fantastic to hear you enjoyed your time in Colombia, made great friends, and it was beneficial personally and professionally - this is exactly what we strive for! We're wishing you all the best for your future and we can't wait to see what you do next.
Columbia was just amazing
October 17, 2024by: Kobimdi Idaboh - United StatesI had never been to Latin America before, so Colombia was my introduction. María, the experience coordinator, was just excellent; I don't think there is anybody else better at their job. I worked at Salazar Asesores and the work culture was so down to earth and family-like, which is exactly my type of vibe. In addition, Comuna Trece felt like a different universe, and I'm a foodie, and the food scene did not disappoint. Also, Medellín really is the city of eternal spring and I was just grateful to be there all the time. I was happy. Every single person was willing to help you. It was just amazing.
This has made our day, Kobimdi! We're so pleased you enjoyed your time on program with us in Medellin and had such a wonderful experience at your internship. It's also a joy to know Maria was so pivotal in your experience. We wish you all the best for your future and we can't wait to see what you do next!
Enjoying Colombia!
December 06, 2023by: Jorja D - New ZealandFantastic experience if you want to challenge yourself, seek out new cultures and information whilst having a paternal support behind you. The Organisation provides you a great foundation from which to intiate a living abroad experience, with your liasing support person there to assist for all your queires. More so the organisations are forthcoming with educational experiences and allow you to immerse yourself into the work culture. Colombia itself is an amazing country to be explored and by doing an internship you are given plenty of time to do so. Cannot recommend enough!
Thank you Jorja for sharing your experience! We are glad that you have had an enriching experience and we look forward to seeing where your career takes you.
Absolutely YES
December 06, 2023by: Petr Homola - Czech RepublicI had one of the best times in my life. This programme, supported by people from The Intern Group will provide a wonderful experience from A-Z. I felt safe, supported, and very satisfied with the accommodation, placement, cultural activities and everything that this journey has brought to me. I was able to embrace new culture and develop personal growth. Much recommended.

Experience of a lifetime!
December 05, 2023by: Helena Diaz - HondurasI did my internship with The Intern Group in Colombia and I don’t have enough words to describe how amazing it was. The internship experience was beyond my expectations and the activities that were set up by the company were amazing. I cannot express how much this helped me in a professional matter. Also, our coordinator Maria was amazing and was always there for us. Please don’t think twice about doing your internship in Colombia! You will never regret being in such a beautiful country and with such beautiful people.
Thank you Helena for sharing your experience! We are glad that you have had an enriching experience and we look forward to seeing where your career takes you.
Genuinely life-changing experience!
December 02, 2021by: Jake Olszowski - United KingdomI did the Colombia Internship Programme as part of my Year Abroad at university. I saw this as a chance to both improve my Spanish and develop skills which would improve my employability further down the line. TIG delivered this and more! Living in Colombia for three months without knowing anyone there is a daunting prospect, but TIG set my mind at ease on so many levels: they found me a great internship; lovely accommodation in a great part of Medellín (El Poblado); and organised all the logistics of the taxi from the airport etc. During my internship I was afforded a great level of responsibility and independence, which really helped me develop my independence and organisation. I was supported by my team and enjoyed getting to know my colleagues. I also loved the social aspect of the programme. I met some great people and really enjoyed the excursions planned for us including trips to Guatapé and Comuna 13, and a tour of Medellín with a coffee tasting. All in all, I came out of Colombia with much more confidence in my Spanish, in myself and in my career. I won't forget my time there, and I'm really grateful to everyone at TIG for making it run so smoothly. I can't wait to go back to South America soon!

I am a more mature person, not a typical intern. I had been out of the IT industry for some years after being in business, and I really wanted to get back in, but I had little recent experience. I had owned a business for some years and hadn’t had the chance to travel, so an international program gave me the chance to travel as well.

In today’s globalized world the option to study and work abroad is not only easier, it’s slowly becoming a necessary consideration in our lives. As a political science student this is even truer in a field that offers incredible opportunities across the world, but which are also very competitive. I felt it was important to sample at least some kind of work abroad before I consider a future career.
