Experimenting in France and Germany
December 08, 2014by: Lisa TanakaThis trip was my first experience in travelling alone and going to Europe. You gain so much more knowledge when you are around fellow experimenters just like you and immersing into the different culture. I came back home with more confidence in myself and earned life changing experiences. The experience itself was amazing and adventurous. Also, my host family has become an extended part of my family on the other side of the world, and I still keep in contact with them. I recommend this program because this program allows you to experiment and explore within the country from France and as well as Germany with plans made everyday for you to enjoy.
Thank you for the review! Happy you have a newfound independence and love of exploring other countries. :)
-The Experiment
My Trip.
December 08, 2014by: Gwen Newman - Winston-Salem, NCThis trip impacted my life in many ways. It helped me discover who I am. It helped me become independent and learn about new things around me. It taught me to appreciate the little things in other cultures. It taught me how to communicate with others that cannot understand you. This trip taught me to branch out and try new experiences. It was one of the best experiences I've ever had and I will never forget a second of it.
Thank you for the review! Happy you enjoyed France and, in particular, appreciating the little things. :)
-The Experiment
Alumni Review of Costa Rica: Biodiversity, Sustainability, and Economics

As a student who has never ventured outside of the United States, I can say that without a doubt Experiment in International Living's overseas programs have provided me with one of the most inspirational and educational experiences of my life. Each of the different programs focuses on a theme that is well integrated throughout the program alongside exciting activities, informational tours, and life changing home stays. From the moment I arrived at the airport, the group leaders and members all worked to create a safe community among themselves and allowed for the other high school students and me to connect with not only each other but with people of different languages and cultures. The trips are detailed so that in everything you do you are enlightened about the world you are in and the ways of living of other people. Whether you are doing a home stay or simply participating in a tour, you are constantly learning something new while also having fun experiencing the adventure with other students around your age. Though most people come having fears about going overseas, most end up having more fear having to leave the overseas communities that they have grown accustomed to after experiencing their way of life and learning so much. After returning from my own trip I have worked to raise awareness of the program in my high school and even helped some students apply because I believe that without a shadow of a doubt that the lessons I learned from participating were life-changing and not things that can be learned in a classroom. I strongly recommend The Experiment in International Living's programs to any high school looking to widen their knowledge of the world outside of the United States and truly come to understand just how similar they are to young adults their age in other countries. Sincerely, Omar Hargrove
"Constantly learning while having fun" sounds like a traditional Experiment program! glad you enjoyed Costa Rica! :)
-The Experiment

I love to travel and experience other cultures. I have traveled to the Philippines to see my family and experience Filipino culture. I used to live in Taiwan, so why not go to another Asian country with different beliefs and cultures.

I got inspired to go abroad because I wanted to expand my worldview and I am deeply interested in seeing the politics/international relations of a country other than my own (the United States). I knew I always wanted to learn about another country, but I wanted to actually visit there to authentically learn about the country, rather than have American media teach me. I also got inspired because I want to prove to my community that studying abroad is an option, and that if you work hard then doors will open.

I love travelling and learning about new cultures. Prior to my abroad experience with the Experiment, I traveled to a handful of countrie, and my mother always challenged me and my brother to explore cities beyond the hotels and tourism. She always said the best way to learn about a people's way of life is through their eyes. She always forced us to step out of our comfort zone, and that expanded my interest in what else is out there. I wanted to enrich myself with more knowledge and experience new cultures first hand.
