A lifelong dream!

July 05, 2025by: Carmela Dilettoso - Italy

My experience at Tel Aviv University has been wonderful and unforgettable. As a mature woman with university education in both Italy and Switzerland, I deeply appreciate this opportunity. It is rich in learning, and I speak not only from an academic perspective but also from life experience. It was my dream to study at the Faculty of Medicine, and this Master’s in Disaster Management allowed me to fulfill that dream. Beyond that, it enabled me to understand the critical importance of managing emergencies and disasters. The wealth of knowledge I gained and the experiences I had—including field exercises like search and rescue training—will be incredibly useful and remain unforgettable. I highly recommend this university. If you are looking for excellent teaching in a welcoming, multicultural environment full of experiences—and all set in the beautiful backdrop of a city that captivates you with its stunning beaches, vibrant nightlife, and rich history—Tel Aviv University is the perfect choice.

My name is Mercillina Ifenayichi, and I am currently enrolled in the Master’s program in Environmental Studies at Tel Aviv University. I am from Nigeria, where I earned my degree in Architecture. My experience at Tel Aviv University has been truly amazing, starting from the very first day I arrived. I was able to pick up the keys to my room and settle in smoothly, without much stress. That same week was the orientation week organized by the Lowy International School. I attended most of the events and thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it. There were plenty of snacks and drinks, and I had the opportunity to meet students from many different countries. I also made some great friends during that time. The following week, we had a departmental orientation, and classes began. During that time, I met two fellow African students who have become my closest friends to this day. Studying Environmental Studies at Tel Aviv University has opened my eyes to many environmental wonders in Israel. We’ve gone on numerous field trips, visited nature reserves, botanical gardens, and toured various companies involved in environmental work. Through this program, I’ve come to see how intentional and committed Israel is to environmental sustainability. As an international student, I have never felt like an outsider, despite the language differences. All my courses are taught in English, and the university has created a friendly and inclusive learning environment. The facilities and resources provided have made my academic journey smooth and enjoyable. I have access to both the e-library and the physical libraries on campus. Our department also has a relaxing student room, a dining area, and a kitchen for our use. One of the features I appreciate the most is the availability of recorded lectures. Being able to revisit the lessons through recorded videos is incredibly helpful. The lecturers are supportive and dedicated to helping us succeed in our studies. In conclusion, I believe Tel Aviv University is the best place I could be. Even the dormitories are built to high standards and are well-furnished. I have wonderful flat mates who are cooperative and understanding. I wholeheartedly recommend Tel Aviv University to students everywhere.

Despite the complexities of the ongoing conflict, Tel Aviv University (TAU) offers an outstanding academic environment where excellence thrives. As a master’s student, I was continually impressed by the dynamic curriculum, which blended theoretical depth with real-world applications. The courses were not only intellectually stimulating but also incredibly diverse, covering cutting-edge developments in my field. What truly set the program apart were the professors—renowned experts who balanced rigorous scholarship with a genuine passion for teaching. Their accessibility and enthusiasm created a collaborative atmosphere where lively debates and innovative ideas flourished. The university’s commitment to academic excellence was reflected in its students as well. My peers came from varied backgrounds, yet all shared a remarkable drive to learn and contribute. This high caliber of discussion and teamwork elevated the entire experience. A standout memory was our research workshop in Cyprus, where we collaborated with international academics—an unforgettable opportunity that expanded both my knowledge and professional network. TAU’s campus is a haven within the bustling city. Sprawling and green, it combines modern architecture with tranquil study spaces. Security is seamless, allowing students to focus entirely on their work. As someone accustomed to European universities, I appreciated the vibrant energy here—libraries stocked with extensive resources, high-tech labs, and even a state-of-the-art sports center featuring an Olympic-sized outdoor pool. Between lectures, I often swam under the open sky, a perfect way to recharge. Beyond academics, TAU’s cultural diversity is its greatest strength. With students from over 100 countries, the campus pulses with global perspectives. I formed friendships and professional connections that transcended borders, enriching my worldview. The administration’s support for international students—from visa assistance to career workshops—was exceptional. In short, Tel Aviv University delivers a top-tier education within a resilient, cosmopolitan community. For those seeking rigor, opportunity, and an inspiring student life, I wholeheartedly recommend TAU.

The Buchmann Mehta School of Music

Studying Harp at the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music at Tel Aviv University has been an amazing experience. As a performance student, I'm surrounded by passionate, highly talented musicians and faculty who push me to grow both technically and artistically. I have had an excellent teacher Julia Rovinsky and Sophie Baird-Daniel. One of the highlights of my time here has been working with Professor Alin Gabay, my ear training teacher. She takes a unique, personal approach with each student, really tuning in to our individual needs and helping us expand our listening and musical skills. The atmosphere at the Buchmann-Mehta School is both intense and supportive. We’re given opportunities to perform frequently—both solo and ensembles — in the orchestra. Living in Tel Aviv has been an experience One of my favorite activities is going to the concerts at The Israeli Philharmonic. As students of the Buchmann-Mehta School, we have special access, and getting to hear world-class performances is a constant source of inspiration. If you’re serious about music and looking for a place that combines rigorous training with a warm, collaborative community in one of the most exciting cities in the world, TAU is an amazing choice!

Doing a double degree in Management and Liberal Arts has been one of the most exciting and unexpected parts of my academic journey so far. On the Management side, I’m learning how the business world works, how to lead teams, make strategic decisions, and think like an entrepreneur. It’s practical, fast-paced, and gives me tools I know I’ll use no matter where I end up. At the same time, through the Liberal Arts program, I’m majoring in Communications and minoring in Middle Eastern Studies, which has taken me in a completely different (but equally meaningful) direction. Communications has taught me to think about how we tell stories, how we connect, and how media shapes the way we see the world. It’s made me more thoughtful about the words I use and how I express myself. My Middle Eastern Studies minor has been eye-opening. It’s helped me understand the region I live in on a deeper level, its history, complexity, and beauty. Some of the most meaningful classes I’ve taken were from that department. What I enjoy most is how these two degrees balance each other. One is about skills and action, the other about understanding and perspective. Together, they’ve made me more curious, more open-minded, and more prepared, not just for a job, but for the world. It hasn’t always been easy juggling both, but I wouldn’t trade it. It’s helped me grow in ways I never expected.

My name is Ana, I have the BA in English Linguistics and now I am the first-year student in the International MA program in Archaeology and Ancient Near Eastern Cultures at Tel Aviv University. My family and I came to Israel in the end of 2023. As I have always been interested in History and Archaeology and I have wanted to continue my academic studies, I have searched for different options and I have found the Tel Aviv University International MA program in Archaeology and Ancient Near Eastern Cultures as the most comprehensive, profound and fitting my personal preferences one. Studying under the guidance of the team of brilliant, highly-experienced and hard-working professors who support my choice of discussion and survey topics, and teaming-up with the bright group of colleagues of various backgrounds who share my interests in Archaeology, bring new unique ideas and complement each other ones, I am looking forward to a life full of interesting scientific researches and discoveries. Seeing not only the professors’ willingness to support my current studies but also their interest in helping me to pursue my ideas and to bring them to the next level have given me not only a significant boost of confidence but also a definite certainty in my academic future. Moreover, becoming a part of the Tel Aviv University have given me not only encouragement in my studies but also the feeling of being a part of a family, being embraced simply as a person I am. To conclude, Tel Aviv University is a wonderful place to study and its International MA program in Archaeology and Ancient Near Eastern Cultures, led by the team of experts of various specializations from Prehistory to Classical Archaeology, is the best choice for everyone who is interested in archaeological studies and who wants to be a part of a big, friendly and supportive family.

My experience in the Dual BA program with TAU and Columbia U

June 08, 2025by: Maya Koshet - Portugal

Program: International Undergraduate Programs at Tel Aviv University

4

As a student in the dual degree program between Tel Aviv University and Columbia University, majoring in Psychology and Entrepreneurship, I’ve found this journey to be incredibly enriching and full of unexpected discoveries. One of the aspects I appreciate most at TAU is the freedom to choose many of my courses. With such a wide variety of classes available, I’ve been able to explore areas beyond my major that have truly surprised me. For instance, I unexpectedly fell in love with Middle Eastern Studies. The professors in this department are some of the most knowledgeable and passionate I’ve encountered—arguably more so than anywhere else in the world. Even taking just a few courses has deeply expanded my understanding of the region, and I highly recommend other students explore this area, even if it’s not part of their main degree. In Entrepreneurship, most of the professors bring incredible real-world experience—many are founders, investors, or deeply embedded in Israel’s startup ecosystem, which makes the learning feel very practical. My Psychology professors are also insightful and engaging. While English isn’t the first language for many professors across departments, they consistently manage to lead high-quality, meaningful courses that are easy to follow and valuable. Not every class has been a hit—some of the required core courses haven’t resonated with me, and there are aspects of the academic structure I don’t always enjoy. But overall, it’s pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me grow. The campus is a major plus. With Tel Aviv’s amazing weather, there’s a constant positive energy. There are tons of great spots to grab coffee, eat, study, or relax in the sun. As an international student, I’d love to see newer, more modern classrooms—but the overall environment is vibrant and welcoming. In short, the dual degree program is a perfect mix of academic depth and student life. It’s a serious education, but also a fun, global experience I’m really grateful to be part of.

Cyber Politics Journey: Practical Insights and Real-World Engagement

August 12, 2024by: Edvin Gobanyi - Hungary

Program: International Graduate Programs at Tel Aviv University

My name is Edvin and I am a Master's student in the Cyber Politics and Goverment Program at Aviv University. During this challenging period, I follow the programme online from abroad. During the programme, I have gained a lot of practical knowledge and have learned to study and apply the material. I was able to follow the lessons online and they were always informative. The instructors were always very helpful, adapting well to the situation at hand, and every lesson was active and interactive. All the teaching materials were easily accessible and I almost always had the opportunity to learn from the latest research. I had the opportunity to listen to several guest speakers and attend conferences and I also had to give several presentations in class on more and more interesting topics. Most importantly, for me, in addition to increasing my lexical knowledge, the programme taught me how to apply it in practice and gave me a comprehensive, integrated view of the political, social and economic implications of technological developments. Besides learning, I had the opportunity to assist the TAU Task Force. This small group of international students was committed to sharing real content about what was happening in Israel. The content they share on social media is a credible representation of reality, with interviews with professors and soldiers all giving a small slice of the events. They are also a safe bet in the international student community, who can pass on information first-hand. I am glad to have been part of this team.

While my academic experience was enriching, I found the lack of meaningful connections with both Israeli and Palestinian communities, both on and off-campus, disappointing. As an international student, I came to Israel expecting to understand its society. The university could benefit from fostering more inclusive initiatives that encourage dialogue and collaboration among diverse student groups.

Holistic Education in the Holy Land!

I am currently pursuing my M.A. in Conflict Resolution and Mediation at Tel Aviv University. I found this program online and spoke with the program director, who turned out to be one of my favorite YouTubers from the Ask an Israeli/Palestinian Project. Having an activist as my supervisor was a great attraction. The program offers a holistic curriculum encompassing Social Psychology, Abrahamic Religions, International Law, Sociology, Politics, and practical negotiation training. It was very good for me in building the foundation for advanced academics. Additionally, the program allows taking courses from other M.A. programs, providing expanded opportunities to tailor my academic career path. Offices for student services are very devoted, and psychological help is available any time. The dorms (Broshim) resemble a suite in a hotel at a reasonable price, with many student lounges for studying and other activities, including a gym. Overall, this is a land I am wholly given over to.

Choosing a graduate program is a significant decision that shapes one’s professional future and personal growth. After completing my Master’s Degree in Conflict Resolution and Mediation at Tel Aviv University, I can confidently say that this program has been a transformative journey and an excellent investment in my future. The program offered a unique blend of theoretical knowledge and practical skills, courses covered essential topics such as mediation and negotiations, enabling students with the tools necessary to analyze and resolve conflicts seamlessly. The curriculum was thoughtfully designed to cover both the theoretical foundations and practical applications. The interdisciplinary nature of the program ensured that us, students, gained a very well-rounded understanding of different conflict dynamics from multiple perspectives. The faculty consisted of leading academic experts with extensive knewledge and real-life experience in conflict resolution, mediation and international law. Their knowledge and practical insights contributed to a fruitful the learning experience, providing students with valuable perspectives on understanding, analyzing and finding potential resolution methods to deep-rooted conflicts. The program had an incredibly diverse cohort of students from around the world, fostering a rich learning environment where different cultural perspectives were shared, and most importantly respected. This diversity is particularly beneficial for a field like conflict resolution, as it provides a broader understanding of different cultural approaches not only for professional experience, but also for day-to-day situations. The friendships and professional connections I made here are invaluable and will undoubtedly benefit me throughout my career. I think that this international exposure is crucial for anyone aspiring to work in global conflict mediation settings, governmental or non-governmental sectors. As always (I also did my undergraduate degree at TAU) Tel Aviv University provided excellent support services, including assistance with housing and scholarships. The campus life at TAU isn't comparable to anywhere else! It's vibrant, with many opportunities for social and academic engagement, providing a positive and fulfilling student experience. I think that the Master’s program in Conflict Resolution and Mediation at Tel Aviv University is an exceptional educational experience that gives students all the necessary skills and knowledge to become adepts in the field of conflict resolution or international relations.

Rewarding experience studying in Israel!

I chose to participate in the Security and Diplomacy Master's program at Tel Aviv University. The classes were very interesting and taught by professors with extensive knowledge and experience in their respective fields. There was support and encouragement for open dialogue and discussions of the various topics we studied and it was unique to hear many different perspectives since the students come from an array of countries and backgrounds. There is a lot of diversity among the students which makes for a more compelling environment. Just to name a few, students had come from Ecuador, Denmark, Turkey, Morocco, Greece and Germany. With such a variety of opinions and knowledge, we had many meaningful conversations and debates in regard to our field of study which is quite rewarding and something I did not have a chance to experience in the USA (where I am from.). I lived off campus in the center of Tel Aviv but my commute was very manageable by bus. The campus is pleasant with many open areas to study or relax and offers a nice mix of eateries. I spent much time in two of the libraries, both of which have conducive spaces for group or solo study with very helpful librarians and staff. We went on a few trips as well, to complement our studies, including, a trip around the Gaza envelope communities, Jerusalem and the West Bank while being led by a wonderful tour guide. I would definitely recommend studying at TAU to enhance one's experience in education and culture. There is so much to gain that is sure to elevate one's understanding of the world and desired area of study.

My experience at Tel Aviv University has been nothing short of transformative. Studying Psychology and Middle Eastern Studies has provided me with a profound understanding of the region, which is invaluable as I aspire to become a policymaker. The university offers a supportive environment with ample resources for both academic pursuits and personal growth. Student life at TAU is vibrant and engaging, filled with diverse activities and events that foster a sense of community among peers. The campus itself is inviting, blending modern facilities with a rich cultural atmosphere that truly enhances the learning experience. Living in Tel Aviv has been a revelation. It's a city brimming with history and innovation, where every corner tells a story waiting to be explored. The dynamic atmosphere and the constant growth of Israel as a society have been inspiring to witness firsthand. Overall, my time at Tel Aviv University has equipped me not only with academic knowledge but also with a deep appreciation for the complexities of this region and its role on the global stage. Truly Enriching Experience!

My experience studying in the one-year MA program "Security and Diplomacy" (2022-2023) at Tel Aviv University (TAU) was truly enriching. Academically, the program was well-structured and provided a comprehensive understanding of security and diplomacy. The seminars were the highlight of the program, providing engaging and thought-provoking discussions. My favourite was the Intelligence seminar, thanks to its insightful content and dynamic debates. We also had the unique opportunity to participate in several field trips, which, despite the early wake-up calls (this was rough!), provided incredible insights. These trips took us to borders with Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza, allowing us to gain a firsthand understanding of the region's complexities. These experiences, combined with the academic curriculum, made the program exceptionally impactful and memorable. However, I do have to acknowledge, though, that despite the challenging subject matter, the workload was lighter than I expected. Coming from a background where I was accustomed to significant academic pressure, I expected more homework, tasks, and presentations. On another hand, this allowed me to balance my studies with enjoying life in Tel Aviv, providing a well-rounded experience. The university also provided health insurance, which was a reassuring support throughout my stay. Living in Tel Aviv itself was an incredible experience (though, quite expensive). The city’s vibrant atmosphere, beautiful beaches, and rich culture made my time there unforgettable. I enjoyed spending time with friends, exploring the city, and, definitely, the local food :) Overall, my time at TAU was delightful. The combination of academic growth, personal development, and cultural immersion made it an unforgettable chapter in my life.

Studying at Tel Aviv University (TAU) for my MSc in Environmental Studies has been transformative. Despite arriving during challenging times at the start of the conflict with Hamas, I assured my family of my safety, learning resilience through the experience. The program offers a rigorous yet rewarding curriculum, blending theoretical knowledge with practical application under approachable, expert professors. My schedule evolved from two classes per week in the first semester to three, alongside an internship at Planet Zero, focusing on climate change at Porter building. TAU's vibrant student life includes diverse seminars that enrich my studies like Engineers without Borders and advanced topics in environment and health. The green rooftop of the Porter School of Environmental Studies reflects TAU's commitment to sustainability, providing a serene study environment. Field trips to places like the Ramat Gan Safari and Hiriya Recycling Park have been eye-opening, offering practical insights into environmental challenges. TAU's campus combines modern facilities with green spaces, including well-equipped libraries and research facilities. Seminars delve deeply into cutting-edge research, fostering academic growth and robust discussions. Living in Tel Aviv offers a dynamic cultural and culinary experience, complemented by beautiful beaches and efficient public transportation. Overall, TAU has provided a nurturing environment for academic and personal growth, blending high-quality education with a diverse and supportive community.

I am certain I might not capture all that ensued during my master’s degree program at Tel Aviv University. However, I urge you to tune in regardless. I joined Tel Aviv University to pursue a master’s in Sustainable Development. I am passionate about this area as it focuses on issues and topics which inspire, fascinate, and are important to me: current affairs, sustainable policies, and sustainable goals. I’m glad the program has been vigorous and intellectually stimulating, with a strong emphasis on contemporary issues and practical applications. Some of the topics, just to mention a few, include project design and management, social entrepreneurship, and sustainable development goals. Regarding the lectures, saying that there were good lecture sessions is an understatement; the lectures were very exciting and intriguing. I admired the level of understanding and absorption my lecturers expressed on various issues and topics. Their open-mindedness and experience during my interactions with them have broadened my scope in addressing sustainability issues. Our lecturers did everything to make the class as interesting as possible, going so far as to bring in individuals who were already implementing these ideas in the real world. I also enjoyed the interactive meetings and seminars we had. Tel Aviv University is one of the biggest and most diverse universities in Israel. This explains why being a foreign student in Tel Aviv city is more fun than a hassle. The campus is well-equipped with modern facilities. Its green spaces and infrastructure developments fascinate me so much. If asked whether I would love to return to Tel Aviv, I would definitely say yes because, honestly, it has been quite an experience.

My time at Tel Aviv University (TAU) as a graduate student in the Sustainable Development MA program has been nothing short of transformative. Engaging in research data analysis with the Nitsan Lab has been a highlight, offering hands-on experience in cutting-edge sustainability research. This has been complemented by enriching classes on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Technologies, Social Entrepreneurship, Impact Investment, and Research Methods, all of which have broadened my understanding and equipped me with practical skills for making a tangible impact. Beyond academics, the diverse and vibrant community at TAU has been instrumental in shaping my experience. My classmates come from various cultural and professional backgrounds, providing a rich tapestry of perspectives that have enhanced our collaborative learning environment. The exchange of ideas with peers from around the world has been incredibly rewarding, fostering both personal growth and a deeper appreciation for global sustainability challenges. I am Jose Cristobal Padilla from Honduras, currently studying an M.A in sustainable development. I chose this path because I am passionate about rural development and contributing positively to the world. So far, my experience in this program has provided me with valuable insights into addressing global agricultural challenges posed by climate change. As a student of this program, I’ve had the opportunity to emerge on Tel Aviv university campus, which is very well equipped with diverse facilities, with numerous libraries to study and comfortable areas for group work. My favorite spots are the grassy areas where you can lay and relax. The campus also holds a very diverse student atmosphere to meet people from different backgrounds and several food options around campus to catch an affordable tasty bite. I also want to highlight also several activities options provided weekly by the student life team to learn more about Israel, holidays and more, but also a space to meet other international students. Besides the studies and life as a student, you can explore the vivid and beautiful city of Tel Aviv. Just when wintertime starts going away and the temperature starts to increase, one of the best things I consider of this city is the opportunity to enjoy and explore the beaches this city has and the great atmosphere its people provide. Also, several parks and green areas are found around for you to enjoy or make a nice picnic. The city is filled with a variety of coffee shops and several international food places for you to try out different cultures, but at the same time you find restaurants with very tasty Israeli local food.

From practical to theory

June 17, 2024by: Jon - England

Program: International Undergraduate Programs at Tel Aviv University

Before starting my first semester at TAU, I was fighting in Gaza for two months. I had so much free time with nothing to do but sit and think. Everything that happened in this apocalyptic suburbia seemed to be of global significance. I wanted to act perfectly at all times. But how can I know what acting perfectly is? I was trapped for these months with 11 other men. All Israeli. Some religious, some secular, some right wing and some left. Some people praised me for actions I took or refused to took while others saw me as an obstacle in the way of their goals. I continued to sit in dark rooms. Not fearing for me life but understanding the possibility that a small logistical issue by someone I don’t know could lead to the obliteration of this room. And the questions I sat and asked myself were much bigger than the war. Questions of life, ethics, morality, the direction of the human race, the importance of war if it has one and whether or not we can prove it to be beneficial at times or not. Weather or not we can know for certain that something is ever beneficial. Coming to TAU, I left the war zone but the questions stayed. And now while I don’t have endless time and a dark room to think. I have a professor, and a bright room, and a library of infinite resources to help me form my opinions. I have class mates who want to explain their perspectives to me and want to have their ideologies challenged. I have been promoted from the front line to the war cabinet. Now I can find my true beliefs before I act on them. And I have a history of experiences to learn from. At TAU I feel safe but challenged. Academia is aggressively competitive and debating the existence of good and bad in modernity can feel like an intense fight. But here is where I feel most, I can get real and meaningful experiences through discourse and I don’t need to be on the verge of death to experience it. I can find meaning through exploration of ideas and as I form new opinions I understand my old ones change and my new ones may too in the near future. This university allows for me to grow and celebrate existence. I am thankful to have this experience and to have it ahead of me for the next few years too. It is peaceful yet intense and this move from practical to theory is an important part of my returning to ‘normal life’ if there is or ever will be such a thing.
