At the Tropical Architecture Summer School you won’t just learn about architecture — you’ll live it. Bali becomes your classroom as you move from studio to site visits, workshops to cultural heritage tours, guided by Balinese and international experts.

From sustainable bamboo structures to luxury resort concepts, you’ll explore how tropical environments shape design — and turn these insights into your own final project, presented at the graduation ceremony.

Open to students, graduates, and professionals, this program connects a global community of architects and designers in one of the world’s most vibrant creative hubs. You’ll leave with hands-on skills, up to 12 ECTS-compatible credits, and a certificate that marks a milestone in your journey.

Best Program Ever

I loved my time in Bali with StudyInBali, I wished I could have signed up for the 3 month program instead! The course content was insightful and I learned some career advancing skills for sure. I do wish there was an option to share a room with a fellow student because all our rooms had 2 single beds but only one of us in each of them. I think that would make it more affordable for everyone as well. Otherwise Bali is an incredible island with lots to do after classes, I can’t wait visit again!

Life- changing experience

I am forever changed after visiting Bali for the Study in Bali: Tropical Architecture program. This program was fully immersive! We spent half of our time in the classroom learning from vetted professionals who have real life experience and the other half on amazing excursions and in workshops. The staff was extremely polite and kind. My classmates were from 16 different countries and are now life long friends! We learned so much about Balinese architecture and South East Asian architecture and culture overall. Bali is such a safe place, the people are so kind, food is great and the weather is so beautiful! This was truly an incredible experience! If I could do it all over again, I would!

Where does the program take place?

Classes are held at IDB Bali (Institut Desain & Bisnis Bali), a private University and creative campus, with excursions and project visits across the island.

Who can join the program?

The Summer School is open to architecture and design students, graduates, and professionals from all backgrounds. A strong interest in architecture and design is more important than prior experience.

What is included in the program fee?

The fee covers tuition, workshops, excursions, field trips, and student services. Housing, flights, and visa costs are not included but guidance and options will be provided.

How many credits can I earn?

You can earn up to 12 ECTS-compatible credits, which is equivalent to about 6 US semester credits. Upon completion, you’ll receive an official certificate and transcript to support credit transfer at your home university.

What’s the group like?

Expect an international mix of students and young professionals from around the world. Past editions brought together participants from 20+ countries — it’s as much about the global community as the course itself.
