Spanish Studies Abroad (The Center for Cross-Cultural Study) has been providing unique learning experiences since 1969 with its programs in Seville, Spain. Since then, we have expanded our programs to include Alicante and Barcelona in Spain, Cordoba in Argentina, San Juan in Puerto Rico, and Havana in Cuba. Our mission is to promote our students' in-depth understanding of Spanish-speaking countries through specifically designed and academically rigorous university-level and cultural travel programs. Our students cross cultural boundaries to live as members of another culture and learn about others as they learn about themselves. In line with our mission, we promote equal opportunities within our programs and do not discriminate on the basis of a person's race, religion, ethnicity, age,...

Transformational Experience
February 09, 2026by: Tadeo Asprella - ArgentinaStudying abroad with SSA in Seville was not a single transformative moment, but a gradual process of learning, unlearning, and growth that reshaped how I see myself, other cultures, and my future goals. Over the course of the semester, my initial assumptions were challenged through everyday experiences, academic engagement, and meaningful interactions with people in my host country. By the end of my time abroad, I had developed a deeper sense of self-awareness, cultural understanding, and clarity about the direction I want my academic and professional life to take. Spain and Seville welcomed me with open arms, taking me in and making me part of its beautiful culture. It was amazing to experience the day-by-day there. One really gets to comprehend the beauty of having small rituals and activities that bring you joy everyday, despite your typical routine (work, studying, exercising, socializing, etc). Spain and Seville, specifically offers an undoubtedly rich culture that you can appreciate everytime you walk on its streets. I honestly could not be happier I got to spend 4 months here and I am extremely excited to go back and see all the wonderful people I have met. I truly recommend this program and SSA, especially if you want to experience Spain's warmth and culture at its best.

So fun!
December 17, 2025by: EmmaLia Ciccarello - United StatesI had a great time and would recommend this to anyone who wants a great cultural immersion. The activities and program were amazing and I loved my host mom! The opportunities are endless and there is so much to do.
Close Connections
December 09, 2025by: Alyson Rose - United StatesThere were so many events in the first month that I was able to make two of my closest friends while abroad from this group. The two directors were always so helpful in every way, and they went out of their way to help us whenever needed.

Being both a Political Science and a Spanish major, I wanted to go with a program that would challenge me on both fronts. I wanted a Spanish program that was rigorous, but I also wanted to go to a culture that was as different from my own as I could think of. Cuba was just starting to open up at the end of the Obama administration, and there was something mysterious about the island. All I knew about it was Castro and the Buena Vista Social Club, but I wanted to learn more.

I always planned to travel to Europe, not caring whether I studied abroad then or vacationed there sometime in the future. As I came to find out, studying abroad is much different than vacationing. Living with a host family, attending a Spanish university, and experiencing daily life as the Spanish do is unlike the tourist experience, where you are on the outside looking in.

When I was in high school I decided that I wanted to experience what the rest of the world has to offer. In order to fulfill this desire, I knew that I would need to study abroad. I loved learning the Spanish language and knew that studying abroad was the way to go.
