Program Overview
Study in Seville, Spain, with SAIIE's Liberal Arts, Business & Spanish Language and Culture program. Designed for college students from beginning to advanced levels of Spanish, the program combines university coursework, Spanish language study, cultural immersion, and life with a Spanish host family.
Students can choose from a wide range of academic areas, including Business, Art, Cultural Studies, Education, Film Studies, History, Literature, Photography, Political Science, Communication Studies, Spanish Language, Spanish Literature, and Women's & Gender Studies. Courses are offered in English and Spanish, with no prior Spanish required for most courses.
Students study at both the SAIIE Study Center and the University of Seville, combining a supportive U.S.-student learning environment with the experience of studying at a Spanish university. Students enroll in 12–18 U.S. semester credits and receive academic advising and support throughout the program.
The program also includes Spanish homestay accommodation with most meals, airport reception, orientation, cultural activities and excursions, and 24/7 bilingual staff support. The University of Wisconsin–La Crosse serves as SAIIE's School of Record, awarding U.S. semester credit and issuing official transcripts.

1. Do I need to speak Spanish to participate?
No. Students with no prior Spanish experience can participate in the program. However, students who want to take courses taught in Spanish at SAIIE or the University of Seville generally need at least five semesters of university-level Spanish, with the exception of Spanish language courses.
What subjects can I study during the semester?
Students can choose courses in areas including Art, Business, Cultural Studies, Education, Exercise and Sports Science, Film Studies, History, Literature, Photography, Political Science and Communication Studies, Psychology, Spanish Language, Spanish Literature, and Women's and Gender Studies.
Can I take courses at the University of Seville?
Yes. Students are required to take at least two courses at the University of Seville, taught in English or Spanish depending on the course and the student's language qualifications. Classes are held at both SAIIE's facilities and the University of Seville, which are approximately a 15-minute walk apart in Seville's historic center.
How many credits can I earn during the semester?
Students take between 12 and 18 U.S. semester credits. Each course is normally worth three credits.
Where will I live during my semester in Seville?
Students live with a carefully selected Spanish host family. The program includes accommodation, most meals, and one load of laundry per week.
What is included in the program cost?
The current $12,899 semester cost includes UW–La Crosse Education Abroad fees and support, the UWL transcript, mandatory CISI health and medical evacuation insurance, SAIIE tuition and fees, airport reception, orientation, cultural engagement, 24/7 on-site support, host-family accommodation with most meals, excursions, and welcome and farewell meals.
Can I participate in an athletics program while studying abroad?
Yes. College students can explore opportunities to participate in athletic programs in Seville in addition to their academic program. Athletic programs are optional and have an additional cost.
What are the requirements to apply?
Students must have completed at least one full-time semester of college and have sophomore standing when they participate. The standard minimum GPA is 2.5, and students must be in good academic standing. Students with a GPA below 2.5 are encouraged to contact SAIIE to discuss their circumstances.
What kind of support will I receive while I am in Spain?
SAIIE provides on-site orientation, airport reception, academic and program support, cultural engagement, and 24/7 on-site support throughout the semester. Students have access to a local bilingual team while living and studying in Seville.
What additional expenses should I budget for?
Students should budget separately for expenses such as airfare, passport and Spanish visa fees, meals not included with the homestay, local transportation, books and supplies, personal expenses, and optional excursions and activities. Athletic programs are also an additional cost.
