Achill - Seaside Rural Cottage Restoration
Helping a few hours a day with the renovation of a stone cottage with renewable materials on the west coast "Wild Atlantic Way", in the parish of Achill. We (a middle-aged couple) have a spare room and need some help with plastering, digging drains, carpentry, plumbing, and so on. No experience necessary; learn by doing. The area is popular with tourists for sightseeing, fishing, hiking, sailing, windsurfing, and scuba diving. Occasional cultural events include boat races, Gaelic football, and traditional Irish music. Our spare room has one single and one double bed, with accommodation sharing the kitchen (and meals), a bathroom with an electric shower, fast fiber broadband internet (mobile internet is also available in the area), and various local transport options and bike-friendly roads.

Frequently Asked Questions
How to get there?
Once you arrive in ireland and take public transport (details provided) to a nearby town, we can collect you by car.
What are the available transportation for getting around?
There are local buses and bicycle hire available
What should I bring?
The weather is highly variable, so lighter clothes for summery weather (18degC to 25degC) as well as suitable outdoor wear for cold wind and rain (5..10 deg C) (Note that it is usually too windy for umbrellas to be useful). Warm strong waterproof boots are suggested.
Are there some local hazards?
There are no venomous snakes, spiders, dangerous animals, plants, etc. Occasionally some small biting flies (horseflies, midges). This is a very low-crime area. Guns are generally absent; there is a greater chance of being struck by lightning than of ballistic harm.
