Rwenzori Royal Institute And Mohama (RWEMO)

RWEMO is a youth led community based innovative climate action and wetlands restoration platform that aims to restore Kasesa wetland and turn it into an eco site (tourist destination) to enhance mindset change towards conservation and community development through tourism and wildlife conservation in Kasese.

Kasesa wetland commonly known as Kyakaroli wetland has been under threat and almost getting extinct due to poor waste disposal from community members, erosion from neighboring hills and also acting as a hiding ground for criminals. But this wetland holds what can be termed as hidden treasures and wonders for example it acts a habitat for resident and migratory birds (over 50 bird species), it acts as a carbon sink for fumes, dust and other pollutants from within Kasese and beyond, it has hot/warm spring at its northern bank which can be turned into a recreation facility.
Therefore it is at this background that a group of youth in conservation has partnered with Kasese municipal council and Diocese of Kasese to develop this wetland through restoration (bringing it to its original state) and turn it into a town eco site that is green and acting as a tourist site as well as a study centre.

Kasese town is dusty with a lot of dry parts cemented by sands of river nyamwamba. It lacks green belts and tourist sites therefore through growing indigenous and medicinal trees can develop a town forest around the wetland that will make Kasese town look a green and clean town.
