I loved it and would love to do another. It was an intimate experience that I wouldn't get any where else with another program.
So Thankful

My experiences during the summer of 2014 have done so much for me already. I have learned so much, both science related and not, and have already been offered internships thanks to this amazing program.
Round River - Patagonia, Chile
October 23, 2014by: AlProgram: Patagonia Conservation Program
I came out of my Round River semester with a deepened understanding of Conservation Biology and of my own interests and limits. Round River challenged me to think critically about the field of conservation in ways I had not experienced in the classroom. I got a taste of what extensive fieldwork entails; what it's like to live your work. Beyond the academic/fieldwork component, I loved the social dynamic of the program and living in a small group. I greatly respected my instructors and the wisdom they brought to the group. Plus, it wasn't bad to explore the Patagonian wilderness for a semester!

I love that Round River is primarily a conservation organization, aiming to create positive change for the natural world, and that the student programs fit neatly into that goal. The student program exists to help conservation, rather than being an end in itself.

We wake up at 5:30 in the morning and quickly have some coffee or breakfast. While students eat, I check the car to see if it's still kicking and ready for another day in the field. We leave at 6:00 a.m. and drive a 20km road, counting every herbivore we see: two impala, one adult female and one sub-adult male; four zebra; 55 elephants; three warthogs; and so on. This data is registered, and later analysed to help us understand population dynamics in the Okavango Delta. On our route we often encounter beautiful and interesting birds and predators too.

My job is a mission. We are helping local land managers be better stewards of the environment. We are training local land managers and young Americans how to conduct conservation research. We are exploring incredible landscapes and creating intimate memories with wilderness. We are forming lifelong relationships.
