Volunteering and Spanish Immersion with Road2Argentina

I loved my internship with Directorio Legislativo, but what really made the program was being able to live in Buenos Aires. I loved using the extensive city public transport, having almost everything accessible within a 5 min. walking radius, and going out at night! Road2Argentina offers great support to your specific needs. The people who lead the program will help you with whatever you need at anytime if it’s figuring out public transport, adapting to cultural differences, or helping to plan an excursion.

I was in Argentina with Road2Argentina for two months, but I wish I could've stayed longer with how much fun I was having at my internship and with the group. I gained a lot of new friends from the other students completing the program, and still talk to them today. The internship I completed was so much fun and gave me a lot of good experience and lessons. I ended up becoming so close to my coworkers I was so sad to leave them after the 8 weeks. My whole experience wouldn't have been as memorable as it was without them and Road2Argentina!

I spent 2 months in Buenos Aires, Argentina, as part of an internship with my university in partnership with Road2Argentina. It was the best experience I have ever had! Every day was a new adventure, learning new things, meeting new people and creating amazing memories that I will always keep with me. Mateo and David were always available to answer my questions or any concerns I had, they helped me with the process before heading to Argentina and also when I got to the country. I would always recommend Road2Argentina to whoever might want to travel abroad! Even though I was thousands of miles from home, I never felt alone, I had a community of people I could always count on!

My time in Buenos Aires, working with Road2Argentina was truly incredible and unforgettable. My Spanish improved significantly, I met incredible people and felt immersed in a wonderful city. R2A's activities were very fun and immersive. I had constant support and help whenever I needed it.

The summer I spent in Buenos Aires, Argentina was nothing short of spectacular. From the warmth and friendliness of the people, to the quality and variety of food, the city felt honestly more safe and welcoming than most cities in my home country. It is hard not to be amazed by the stunning, century old architecture in an increasingly modernizing city, as well as the art, music, and culture that capture the essence of Buenos Aires. Outside of the city, it is relatively affordable and easy to travel around the area. Take a taxi or riverboat to the town of Tigre, go to a traditional cattle ranch to meet a Gaucho, or take a ferry across the river to Uruguay. Argentina itself has so many cool places to visit, all of which can be reached from Buenos Aires. With places like Iguazu Falls, The Mendoza wine region, and Patagonia, Argentina has something for everyone. Whether you consider yourself a foodie, adventurer, city slicker, or a cowboy, check out Argentina and I promise you will not be disappointed.

I made the decision to do a 6 month internship in Sustainable Development with Road2Argentina for my placement at University. From the first day I arrived Mateo and David made me feel comfortable and safe in a city that was so far from home. Any concerns I had were answered within the first day I arrived and from that day they were available to call 24/7 no matter the problem. I chose the shared apartment option and was placed with a lovely relaxed family that lived in the heart of Palermo which made going out with friends very convenient. If you are concerned about your Spanish level before applying, don't let this be a barrier! There are many schools around the city which you can go to and they also act as a great way to make new friends. I arrived with little to no knowledge in Spanish and left almost being able to speak it fluently. My internship immediately exposed me to sustainability projects from all across South America and the knowledge and life skills I gained from this experience are invaluable. It has only been since returning back to London and having interviews with different companies have I realised just how valuable this experience has been and how much it makes you stand out when applying for jobs. I spent 8 weeks volunteering at a fantastic NGO in charge of finding housing solutions for families without access to decent housing. The whole experience was amazing, the program was perfectly organized. They give you a fabulous welcome kit!

I enthusiastically encourage the program to prospective travelers. Both of volunteer placements, as an english teacher in a school and as a after school tutor, were a good fit. I got to work personally with the students and interact with my Argentinian co-workers and co-volunteers. I liked seeing what everyone else in the program was doing and share experiences. The directors are great and I always felt taken care of. I felt like I immediately joined a group of foreigners and natives and it was a lot of fun! The city is a rich cultural experience and the country is beautiful. I also highly recommend studying Tango while here.

i arrived as a biology major and i was expecting to work with the earth and people and thats exactly what i did. my experience submerged me into the entire process of recycling of both organic and inorganic products. with the organic waste we process it aerobically to produce a compost that was used to make fertile soil useful for poor areas in the north of buenos aires. with the inorganic materials we process them and made eco bricks which were used to make houses and schools in the town of La Plata which ironically does not have Plata. then some days changed greatly when we had to travel to different schools in the city and we showed children of different ages the different native flora of buenos aires, how to plant it and the importance of maintaining native plants in the city in order to promote bio-diversity.

My friend and I both were looking for a place in South America that we could use our Fashion Design degrees to volunteer and improve the lives of people and communities. Road2Argentina was the first and close to only organization that was more than willing to find a placement for our particular requirements. They exceeded our expectations with housing, accommodations, and activities. They were great at giving us an understanding of Argentine culture which was the perfect jumping off point to immersing ourselves into the culture. Overall we would happily recommend R2A to anyone, it is a great program with great people who will make you feel at home in a new place.

I am almost finished with 4 weeks of assisting with teaching English for 2 to 3 hours a day at a school in Buenos Aires through R2A and my experience has been great! The R2A staff has been wonderful to work with and always helpful if I had any questions. I also decided to take Spanish classes as part of the program and had a good experience with the classes as well. Between R2A and the Expanish school, I feel that I had a nice support network to help me deal with the challenges of being abroad alone. I booked a homestay through R2A and am happy that I made this choice because it gave me an opportunity to practice Spanish in a safe environment and enabled me to better experience what life is like for those from Buenos Aires (Porteños). Also the homestay was well located in a safe neighborhood. Overall I enjoyed my experience with Road 2 Argentina and would not hesitate to recommend it to those looking to volunteer in Argentina.

Overall my experience in Buenos Aires is one that I will never forget. volunteering in the Villas was an incredibly rewarding experience which was complemented by the extensive and fun activities coordinated by Road to Argentina. The program allowed for an indepth appreciation for life in another city rather then just as a traveller, it allowed me to get a feel for what its like to live abroad.
