Online TEFL Certification for Teaching English in Taiwan
by Premier TEFL

Program Overview
Foreign teachers at cram schools in Taiwan must be 20 or older, have graduated from college or above, and teach the official language of their passport country. Teachers without a bachelor's degree also need a language teaching qualification certificate. Premier TEFL's online Level 5 TEFL Diploma prepares you for that classroom.
Taiwan's Workforce Development Agency sets at least 14 teaching hours a week for full time cram school teachers, and each registered cram school must apply for its own work permit for you. Arriving on a resident visa, you apply to the National Immigration Agency for an Alien Resident Certificate within 30 days. The Ministry of Education's TFETP program hires for public schools and asks teachers for a degree plus a license, or experience and a qualification.
The 180 hour Government Regulated Level 5 TEFL Diploma, Ofqual reference 610/1572/6, is the best fit for Taiwan, and the 120 hour Accredited Online TEFL Course is the starting option.
Study self paced online with 24/7 access, tutor support, optional live Zoom classes, an instant digital certificate and lifetime job assistance. Enroll online and finish the course before you apply to schools in Taiwan.

Frequently Asked Questions
Get answers to all the most common questions about Premier TEFL.
Do I need a degree to teach English at a cram school in Taiwan?
You need to have graduated from college or above, and if you do not hold a bachelor's degree you also need a language teaching qualification certificate. That is the rule published by Taiwan's Workforce Development Agency for full time foreign teachers at short term cram schools. You must also be 20 or older and teach the official language of the country on your passport, so English teachers need a passport from an English speaking country.
How many hours a week do cram school teachers in Taiwan teach?
Full time foreign teachers at cram schools in Taiwan must work at least 14 hours a week in teaching related work. If you work for two or more cram schools, each one must give you at least 6 hours a week, and your total cannot go above 32 hours. Each registered cram school that employs you must apply for its own work permit, so check that every school you teach for has its own permit in place for you.
What visa and residence card do English teachers in Taiwan need?
Teachers need a work permit, a resident visa and an Alien Resident Certificate. Your cram school applies for the work permit, and you then enter on a resident visa. The National Immigration Agency asks resident visa holders to apply for an Alien Resident Certificate within 30 days of entry, with the labor authority's approval letter and a certificate of employment issued within the past month, plus your passport and photo.
Who can apply to Taiwan's Foreign English Teacher Program, TFETP?
Applicants need a passport from a country where English is an official or common language and a bachelor's degree from an accredited university. Taiwan's Ministry of Education also asks for a recent police clearance. Teachers need a state teaching license, or more than one year of English teaching experience plus a qualification such as a TESOL, TEFL or CELTA certificate approved by accredited universities. Apply on the official TFETP site.
Which Premier TEFL course is the best choice for teaching in Taiwan?
The 180 hour Government Regulated Level 5 TEFL Diploma, Ofqual reference 610/1572/6, suits most people heading to Taiwan. It is a recognized Level 5 qualification that employers can verify on the UK government register. The 120 hour Accredited Online TEFL Course is the starting option, and the 300 hour Level 5 Master TEFL Advanced Diploma, Ofqual reference 6101574X, is the step up for a stronger profile.
