Malaysia Ready TEFL Certification, Ofqual Regulated Level 5
by Premier TEFL

Program Overview
To teach English in Malaysia you need an Employment Pass, a work permit your employer applies for through the Expatriate Services Division of the Immigration Department of Malaysia, since expatriates cannot apply for their own passes. Premier TEFL's online courses prepare you for that classroom.
The division names English Language Teacher as a position that needs a Teaching Permit, with applications subject to endorsement by the approving agency for education. The Expatriate Committee or relevant authorities must approve you for the position before the Immigration Department issues the pass. You sign an employment contract, and the pass runs up to 60 months, is valid only in Peninsular Malaysia and covers work only for the company named on it.
The 180 hour Government Regulated Level 5 TEFL Diploma, Ofqual reference 610/1572/6, is the best fit for Malaysia, and the 120 hour Accredited Online TEFL Course is the starting option.
Study self paced online with 24/7 access, tutor support, optional live Zoom classes, an instant digital certificate and lifetime job assistance. Enroll online and finish the course before you apply to employers in Malaysia.

FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Get answers to all the most common questions about Premier TEFL.
What work pass do I need to teach English in Malaysia as a foreigner?
You need an Employment Pass, the work permit that lets an expatriate take up employment with an organization in Malaysia. Your employer applies through its account with the Expatriate Services Division, as expatriates cannot apply for their own passes. The Expatriate Committee or relevant authorities must approve you for the position before the Immigration Department of Malaysia issues the pass, which is tied to your employment contract.
Do English teachers in Malaysia also need a separate teaching permit?
Yes. In its FAQ on the revised expatriate salary policy, the Expatriate Services Division gives English Language Teacher as an example of a position that requires a Teaching Permit. Applications for such positions are subject to endorsement by the relevant approving or regulatory agency for education. Ask your employer how it will handle the Teaching Permit alongside your Employment Pass when you receive an offer.
Can I teach for more than one school on a Malaysian Employment Pass?
No. Expatriates may only work for the company named in their Employment Pass, and a change of company means a new application. The pass is a multiple entry visa that runs from 1 to 60 months, subject to your contract and Expatriate Committee approval, and it is valid only in Peninsular Malaysia. Minimum salary thresholds for each pass category now count basic monthly salary taxable in Malaysia, not allowances or bonuses.
What should I know before entering Malaysia for a teaching job?
Enter on the right pass, not as a tourist planning to work. UK government travel advice says you need a visa before you travel if you are not a tourist, and that you must submit an arrival card online before entering. If you are outside Malaysia, a Visa with Reference can be applied for together with your pass. Even a few days of overstay can mean a fine, detention, deportation at your own cost and a ban on returning.
Which Premier TEFL course is the best choice for teaching in Malaysia?
The 180 hour Government Regulated Level 5 TEFL Diploma, Ofqual reference 610/1572/6, suits most people heading to Malaysia. It is a recognized Level 5 qualification that employers can verify on the UK government register. The 120 hour Accredited Online TEFL Course is the starting option, and the 60 hour Level 5 Business English course adds a focused option if you plan to teach professionals or corporate classes.
