Guatemala Leadership & Language Exchange Program
Program Overview
The Guatemala Leadership & Language Exchange is a 9-day immersive program (June 10 - 18, 2026) designed for high school students (ages 15–18) from the Washington, DC area who are eager to grow as global leaders.
Based in the historic city of Antigua, this program combines Spanish language practice, cultural immersion, leadership development, and community engagement.
Students participate in daily Spanish lessons, interactive workshops with Guatemalan peers, service-learning activities, and guided cultural experiences. Through structured reflection and facilitated dialogue, participants deepen their intercultural competence, confidence, and global awareness.
Safety is a top priority. Students are supported by experienced U.S.-based program leaders and trusted in-country partners. Lodging, transportation, meals, and on-site supervision are coordinated to ensure a secure and enriching experience.
This program is ideal for students interested in language learning, international education, service, and leadership growth.

What is the service experience planned for the 9-day trip?
Our service experience is designed to be meaningful, supervised, and age-appropriate. Students will partner with a local school and/or community organization in Antigua, Guatemala.
Projects may include but are not limited to: Supporting English-language learning activities, assisting with classroom-based projects, leading structured cultural exchange activities, and more.
How does this program support college applications?
This program is intentionally designed to support competitive college and scholarship applications. Students gain valuable skills such as leadership and initiative, cross-cultural communication, and global awareness, as well as adaptability, maturity, and confidence. Additionally, students maintain a guided reflection journal, which helps them clearly articulate their growth in college essays, interviews, and scholarship applications.

Where do participants stay?
Students and educators stay at Colegio Mayor de Santo Tomás de Aquino, a longstanding Guatemalan institution experienced in hosting international exchanges. The residence is secure, gender-separated, and staffed, with communal spaces for meals and evening reflection.
