About One, Two... Tree!
One, Two…Tree! is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting education, social empowerment, and intercultural exchange through English language learning. Our project is based in Santiago Atitlán, a town on the shores of Lake Atitlán in Guatemala, where we work closely with the local community to create accessible educational opportunities.
We offer free English classes to children in local public schools, as well as to children, teenagers, and adults at our Learning Centre. Through these classes, we aim to strengthen students’ communication skills, build their confidence, and expand their future educational and professional opportunities. We also encourage cultural exchange, allowing international volunteers to learn from the local community while sharing their language, experiences, and knowledge.
Our volunteer programme welcomes people who are motivated to contribute to education and are willing to engage with the community. Volunteers support English lessons, prepare activities and materials, and work alongside the local team to create an enjoyable and supportive learning environment.
The programme is completely free of charge, meaning we do not ask volunteers to pay a participation or programme fee. However, we are unable to cover volunteers’ personal expenses. Volunteers are responsible for arranging and paying for their own travel, accommodation, meals, local transportation, insurance, and any other costs associated with their stay in Guatemala.

Is accommodation included?
Accommodation is not free, but it is very affordable — around €180 / £200 per month. Depending on the accommodation, this may include: Private bedroom Private bathroom Kitchen Washing facilities and water Most accommodation is in local homestays, where a local family lives on the property and private rooms are available for volunteers. How much free time will I have?
Volunteers have a 3-day weekend every week, giving you plenty of time to explore Guatemala and enjoy your time here. Depending on when you arrive, you may also have additional time off during local holidays and events, such as: Semana Santa — around March–April Juegos Escolares — around May–June Feria — around late July, usually around the 25th
How many volunteers will be there?
This varies throughout the year depending on volunteer numbers. If you book around one to three month in advance, we can usually give you a good idea of how many volunteers are expected. If you book further in advance, it is harder to predict, as volunteers can sign up right up until their arrival Regardless , you won't be alone , the coordinator is there and there are usually friendly volunteers working for other organisations
Is it ok that I've never taught before? Will I teach alone or with ano
Previous teaching experience is helpful but not required. Our programme is designed to help you develop your skills through a hands-on learning process: Observe → Learn → Teach → Receive Feedback → Improve. Depending on the number of volunteers at the time, you may also teach with a partner and share responsibilities. You can decide together how to divide the work, whether that means sharing lesson planning and class diaries, taking turns leading
I don’t speak Spanish- is that ok?
Spanish will definitely help with everyday life, and learning some basic phrases is highly recommended. However, our teaching approach focuses on using as much English as possible. Not speaking Spanish can actually help you avoid relying too heavily on translation and encourage students to develop their English listening skills. Many volunteers arrive with little or no Spanish and do just fine!
