Online Mandarin Chinese Course

My daughter is really interested in learning Mandarin and I have been looking for a way to support her. Omeida offer an online taster class using interactive methods, which she really enjoyed. This has helped us take the plunge and book a series of online lessons to prepare for a week's summer camp in Yangshuo for her as part of a longer family trip. The online help and support has been excellent, very warm, personalised and responsive, and I hope this will be an excellent nurturing experience for her in a good environment, as she is still only 12.

Omeida's remote Chinese lessons are highly organized and convenient . I have already completed more than 50 lessons with the wonderful Zhuge, who is an outstanding teacher. Their approach encourages active participation and enables me to speak extensively. The program is highly practical, allowing me to maintain and improve my language skills at a pace that suits my life while thoroughly enjoying the process.

I was nervous to invest in an online Chinese course, but I was surprised to have loved it, and to have learned a lot! My teacher is encouraging and superb. She does expect a lot of me, so I have to work hard in order to keep up with the material - don’t expect it to be an easy class. I am learning both reading/writing and speaking/listening. I'm currently halfway through my online course and have enjoyed each class. It's definitely challenging but that's what you want. Compared to other online classes, Omeida take your language goals seriously and work with you to make sure you progress towards getting there! The classes are engaging, and are a good mix of curriculum material as well as natural conversation. One thing I've noticed is a lot of what I've learnt, I've used in real situations whereas other courses, in my experience, don't directly relate to daily use. Definitely recommend.

My 14 year old son loves his Chinese classes on Sundays night. He has been doing it for three months and he likes it very much. I signed him up for extra practice of the target language in preparation for high school, and in three months he is already impressing teachers and classmates. I highly recommend it.

I admit I was initially nervous to invest in a online course, since I really wanted to attend in person. But I couldn't be more pleased with my experience. The class App that is used was very advanced, and also user friendly. I like the way the lessons progressed and my teachers willingness to help me whenever I asked how to say things even if it wasn't in that lesson. I have been learning Mandarin Chinese online at Omeida for a few years now. Omeida's excellent teachers are also very friendly, experienced, dedicated and patient. They provide up to date learning material. Grammar points and new vocabulary are very well explained and practised. I always look forward to each new lesson and to discussing current topics or daily life with my teacher. In this way, I can keep increasing my knowledge of Chinese language and culture constantly and at my own pace.

If you are thinking of learning Chinese, Omeida is the school for you! I started to study it online, and I hope to be able to go on-site one day. The support from the beginning is great, the teachers really well prepared and the time during the lessons flies. The online platform works really well: you can upload your homework and send them to the teacher. The lessons are really well structured and I feel I am progressing. I never ever imagined that I would be learning a language online, let alone Mandarin. But these online classes by Omeida have given me a boost to my learning, confidence, and an amazing opportunity to practice speaking and listening. We always start off the class with chatting about something topical, as understanding current topics is just as important as the textbook vocabulary and grammar. We use a great app to facilitate seeing each other, a white board for instruction, as well as for going through homework (and yes corrections). Nothing can replace 24/7 immersion and the lively community in Yangshuo itself (highly recommended experience) but this is as good as it gets to Living Chinese in my own home.

Omeida has always been a good choice for me; i've not only studied with them at their school in China, but am also taking online lessons (especially now in times of Covid-19). The teachers are very experienced and can easily adapt to ones own style and pace of learning. I've tried many different methods of self studying or taking classes somewhere else, but i must admit, that I would always come back to Omeida to talk everything through and get a deeper understanding of the language; more than just grammar structures. If I wouldn't have studied so many hours with them already, I wouldn't have made such good progress. Of course there is no immersion effect when taking online lessons, but the teachers are very passionate and patient and try their best to make learning a good experience. For online courses they use a computer program which is very convenient; it has a virtual classroom, a chatroom, homework can be uploaded and teacher and student can both leave reviews after the lessons. The organizational structure is also very good; the courses start every week so they easily suit ones own schedule and plans. Sometimes it is difficult to find the offer or course style that fits ones own learning, but once that's found, everything else runs easily. They always answer within a short time and everyone is on WeChat for easy communication. Thank you Omeida for making learning Chinese a great journey!

I've started studying Chinese in Oct 2019 and spent a month in Yangshuo with Omeida in Dec 2019. During this month in China my Chinese improved dramatically. Upon going back home to Singapore I started taking online classes 3 times a week. I've now had 3 month of online classes experience and could not recommend it enough. Given that it's not possible to travel to China now, it is really great that Omeida has online classes option.

I started studying online with Omeida after doing a one week intensive course with them last year. I have now been having classes 2 times a week since July 2019. Previously I had been studying Chinese at the confucius institute in Glasgow, but I wanted more opportunity to practise speaking and listening Chinese, and a more frequent class than once a week. As my job involves frequent travel I also found that I missed quite a few of the classes, whereas the online class system allows me flexibility to change the time of the class if I am travelling, but still keep up with classes. I planned to go back to Omeida this April for another intensive course, but obviously with the COVID-19 outbreak those plans have had to be put on hold, so I am more than ever thankful I can carry on my classes online. The software that is used is effective, I can follow along in the book I have at home, and my teacher is engaging, fun and able to adapt the classes to my pace of learning. If you are looking for online Chinese classes with live teachers then I would thoroughly recommend it.

For almost 2 years now, I enjoy weekly online lessons. With the help of excellent teachers, I can study at my own pace and I am making continuous progress, especially with regard to my ability of speaking.

I had taken Chinese class room based lessons about 5 years ago in a small group but then stopped as I couldn't find enough time to study. Last year I wanted to start studying again as I felt that I had a little bit more time at hand. Originally, my idea was to do an intensive class in China, so I was looking for some potential schools. That's when I came across online classes and thought to give it a try. I was a bit apprehensive as I didn't know whether the class would just be riddled with technical issues (don't we all experience those so often when we have conference calls/web shares?). I also wasn't sure how easy or difficult it was for teachers to "read" a struggling student. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised such so, that I prepaid for 80 lessons, taking 2 lessons a week. Technical issues are very infrequent and typically are solved quickly. the video conferencing helps in "reading" one's puzzled mind, although of course in class teaching is of course more effective there. Showing things is of course limited to what fits on a white board (so hands body language etc. is missing) but on the other hand, it also adds another dimension: • quickly showing photos of items talked about • being able to read the typed word vs hand written ones • not losing time to go to a computer and find things if one were in a class room. The pace is tailored to one’s liking and the teachers are demanding although will adjust their expectations as they get to know you (either up or down). I had 2 teachers Vivian for the first 2 months then Yan thereafter and can honestly say that both are excellent teachers. The classroom material is good and compared to my in-class material I had 5 years ago more up to date. There are two things I wish the book would do better/include: • The grammar parts are a bit short and sometimes not easy to grasp. I wished more exercises would be available to get the hang of some of the structures. • One of the things I am struggling is to keep all the learned things (grammar and vocabulary) in my memory bank. It would be nice to have review parts in each chapter (maybe even have this online) to work on your own and see where one needs to go back and review the areas one is failing. Compared to in class lessons (group setting, not intensive how I did it), I can honestly say that I prefer online teaching. I have much more “talk” time and cannot hide behind my class mates. I have learned much more in those 50+ hours I have taken so far than in my previous in class sessions. Finally, it allows me to manage my time much better as I can take the class either at work or home. I still intend to go to China and have an immersive class as I believe this is the most efficient way to get a jump start but learning online with Omeida has been a very good and enjoyable experience. I can recommend it to anyone who wants to give learning Chinese a go.
