An incredible and immersive experience where I gained such valuable whitewater paddling and reading knowledge while sleeping every night in a cozy tent and cooking on a fire. Oh and you get to see such a beautiful part of northern Ontario while also earning many guiding certificates.

Yes! River Roots gives you hands-on leadership experience, backcountry skills, and up to 5+ professional certifications, including internationally recognized Whitewater Rescue Technician. Graduates often work as guides or outdoor educators, but the teamwork, problem-solving, and confidence you gain will make you more employable in any field.
River Roots is designed for motivated beginners as well as those with some outdoor experience. You don’t need prior whitewater or wilderness skills—just a willingness to learn, stay active, and embrace adventure. A basic level of fitness for hiking, paddling, and backcountry living will help you get the most out of the program, and our instructors provide full training and support along the way.
River Roots is an all-inclusive program. We provide food, group gear, safety equipment, and transportation. You just need to bring personal clothing and gear, and we provide a detailed packing list upon registration. We’re also happy to help you source any items you don’t have.
