Human Rights Internship in Cape Town - Refugee Support
This project was formed at the end of 2007 in an effort to ensure that no other refugee or asylum seeker would suffer the same fate. Their mission is to provide humanitarian assistance to vulnerable and disenfranchised asylum seekers and refugees in Cape Town. In doing so, they aim to provide the support necessary to facilitate a transition to self-reliance. Their projects include Independent Living Program, Outreach Program, and Peer Counselling Program. South Africa remains the highest destination country in the world for asylum seekers. Most of them have suffered political or economic trauma in their countries of origin. Many are victims of genocide, sexual violence, and massive human rights violations. Thus, the project offers internships in Human Rights, International Studies, Social Work, and Psychology. They welcome interns from around the world. Human Rights/International Studies: Assist with research, monitoring and evaluation, fundraising and communications, program development for asylum seekers and refugees, policy development, and other tasks. Social Work/Psychology: Assist the Social Work Supervisor with individual clients
