Formed in 1955, this human rights organization provides paralegal advice to disadvantaged individuals, groups, and communities. Their work includes legal services, research, legalization monitoring, publication, training, campaigns, and networking. The organization has several offices in South Africa aimed at promoting constitutional entrenchment and protection by law of human rights for all; establishing a democratic and accountable government; and monitoring infringements of political and socio-economic rights. They focus largely on social security rights, especially retirement provisions, child support benefits, unemployment provisions, and disability provisions. Duties of interns include: - Tasks in Law and all related paralegal services - Research - Socio-Economic Development and several other fields - Social-economic impacts on poverty and development, through performing various administrative, research, and related tasks Eligibility for this program includes: - A strong interest in Human Rights, NGO work, and an understanding thereof - A background in either Law, Research, or Economics - A flexible, open-minded attitude and respect for other cultures
