This amazing program in Mwandi village helps the most vulnerable have a safe place to raise their families. A large percentage of the population here live in poorly built mud huts that can't withstand bad weather. During the rainy season, homes get damaged and eventually collapse as the walls and grass roofs give in. People don’t have the financial resources and materials to repair or rebuild their homes. Thus, Love Volunteers partners with a Zambian organization to provide housing in the village. The project has completed over 140 homes, providing shelter to over 800 orphans and their caregivers. However, there’s still a long list of families waiting, many of whom care for vulnerable family members—suffering from a disability, grandparents, orphaned grandchildren, or abandoned or negl...

Make a REAL difference locally
by: ED Adshead-Grant - United KingdomProgram: Construction Project in ZambiaBuilding a mud hut for AIDS orphans is a very impactful and meaningful time in rural Zambia, where families live typically on <$2 per day. No previous experience needed - just optimism and some manual work in the sun to create a home for a village family. Wonderfully friendly people - we’re in our fifties now and loved the time with the project leads Paula and Matt who both live locally now. Jump in! Give it a go.

Thanks Ed and Jane, So pleased you enjoyed your time amongst the community in Mwandi. A good positive attitude is definitely the most important thing you can bring to a volunteer program and you were both fabulous examples of this! Thanks so much for being great Love Volunteers. A great experience
by: Jennifer Buckley - IrelandProgram: Construction Project in ZambiaA great experience in Mwandi, a hands-on project with brilliant staff. I thoroughly enjoyed myself! Mwandi is really out in the bush, although quite a big village it is certainly remote so you get to see the real Africa. The people were so welcoming and the children were so cute. The project is hands on and you really get to contribute to the building of the mud huts, there is a great feeling of accomplishment and contribution at the end of your stay. Matt and Paula were lovely, from the moment we were collected from Livingstone we felt part of the project. The local are great and so helpful not just with the project but with all our questions about local culture and tradition, they went out of their way to make us comfortable and to ensure we enjoyed ourselves. TIPS: If you can, stay in Victoria Falls or Livingstone before or after your stay in Mwandi, the falls are really worth it and there is lots of other activities to do on the Zambezi, including the sunset cruises which I would definitely recommend. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to Chobe National Park which I would have loved to see.

Hi Jennifer,
There really isn't anything we can add to this absolutely incredible review of the Construction program in Zambia!
Thank-you: for your positive attitude and valuable contribution to the Mwandi community and for sharing your insight to assist future volunteers. What great advice!
All the very best and hope to have you back with us again in the future!
The Team @ Love Volunteers
A new experience for me and I really enjoyed it
by: Sue HillmanProgram: Construction Project in ZambiaBuilding mud huts for families affected by AIDS was a new experience for me and I really enjoyed it. Working in the village of Mwandi with the local building team was great fun especially as the woman whose house we were building came and worked with us and her friends dropped by to lend a hand. It was great to feel part of the village and get to understand a bit about what life there is really like. I loved being able to leave something tangible behind when I left and few things are more important than a proper roof over their head for a family who are living in very poor, squashed accommodation. For those who like to explore, Livingstone is not too far away so you can visit one of the great natural wonders of the world, Victoria Falls, as part of your time in Mwandi. I loved this experience!

Hi Sue,

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience of volunteering in Zambia.

It's fantastic to hear that you were able to meet and work with the woman whose house you were building and be included in village life.

As you say, being in these communities who have so little truly makes us appreciate what's really important in life and so much more grateful for what we have - our health, freedom, friends and family.

Thanks again and all the very best for the future.

The Team @ Love Volunteers

I had traveled quite a bit but I wanted to go somewhere and truly immerse myself into a different country, see a new way of life that wasn't in a book. And I wanted it to be somewhere fairly off the grid.
