The Walkabout is a one-of-a-kind facility that truly believes in conservation through education. Students learn from expert wildlife and zoo veterinarians and shadow rangers on their rounds as they take care of the many species that call the Walkabout home. These animals include kangaroos, wallaroos, wallabies, bettongs, pademelons, Tasmanian devils, wombats, emus, dingos, flying foxes, and more! Interns learn key topics relating to Australian wildlife including behavior, welfare, and enrichment of captive animals. Explore current issues such as conservation efforts, preventative medicine, zoonosis and one health, and infectious diseases across several species. COVID-19 online experience!
August 16, 2020by: Natalie Tan - United StatesProgram: Australia Wildlife Internship (Online)Usually this course is offered in person but due to COVID-19 this year, everything transitioned to online learning and we had our daily walkabouts and lessons via google meet. Despite it being fully online, everyone took the extra mile to make things for fun and interactive for us from introducing every animal, telling us funfacts about them, followed by their individual experiences! It was a 2hour lesson every night (US timing) and every day, it would be a different topic/sub-topic being taught and i really enjoyed how we got to see them through the screen and learn about Australia Wildlife. I cant possibly think of a better way to have learnt about different wildlife animals and i love it!
