Salvador was the first slave market in the New World with many sugar plantations, the city has managed to preserve many outstanding Renaissance buildings and the old town houses are brightly painted coloured houses, often decorated with fine stucco-work. This region is also known for its beautiful beaches. Located in the neighbourhood of Barra only 15 minutes from the historic center (Pelourinho) and 5 minutes from the beach. The area is fashionable and residentially up-market, containing good shops, cheap restaurants and trendy bars.
