by: Korea Gapyear

Add first reviewSince 2012

Support rescued animals and experience Korean culture up close through Korea Gap Year’s Animal Welfare Volunteering program. This program is ideal for those passionate about animal rights, interested in basic care, or simply looking to share time and kindness with animals in need. You’ll help care for stray and rescued dogs through daily routines like feeding, walking, bathing, and grooming. Whether it’s cleaning shelters, supporting adoption events, or offering gentle attention, your time helps animals feel safe, healthy, and loved. Join us for 4, 6, 8, 12, 16, 20, or 24 weeks—choose what fits your schedule. Activities run Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with evenings and weekends free for cultural exploration. No special qualifications are required. Communication is in basic English or Korean, and a full orientation is provided before you begin. Activities are subject to availability.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a visa to join the program?

Visa requirements can vary depending on the length of stay, nationality and specific circumstances.
Korea GapYear offer visa support by issuing official invitation documents required for the application process.

Do I need insurance to join this volunteer program?

We highly recommend obtaining accident, illness, and third-party liability insurance for your time abroad.

When will I receive confirmation of my volunteer placement?

After we receive all the necessary documents for your application, we will process your information and confirm availability. You will then receive a placement proposal based on your profile and interests. The confirmation process typically takes up to 8 weeks, including confirmation from the host organization.

How long does this volunteer program last?

The minimum duration is 4 weeks. We recommend applying well in advance, at least 2 months before your desired start date.

Do I need to speak Korean?

While we recommend at least an intermediate level of Korean or fluency in English, the more Korean you know, the more responsibilities you will be given. If you're not proficient in Korean, don't worry—attitude and openness are often more important. For advice on your language proficiency, feel free to contact us.
