Dolphin Research and Community Capacity Building Project

Khmer Ocean Life (KOL) works to conserve Cambodia’s marine and coastal ecosystems, with a focus on marine megafauna, through capacity building by conducting ongoing research and monitoring and empowering, and collaborating with, local fishing communities.

We are based in Kampot and focus on monitoring (land and boat surveys) marine wildlife species, specifically Irrawaddy dolphins, Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins, Indo-Pacific finless porpoises, dugongs. Through our work, we aim to inform sustainable conservation strategy Cambodian marine environment and work closely with communities contribute to capacity building can conservation efforts.

Interns have to opportunity to engage in a variety of opportunities including collecting scientific data, assisting with dolphin ecotours, promoting swimming lessons, maintaining the coastal-wide stranding network, training citizen scientists, and promoting conservation through outreach events and social media.

We have no requirements of interns, as we provide basic survey equipment on-site. The most important thing an intern can bring is adaptability and motivation to learn and contribute.
