Kaya Responsible Travel welcomes teen volunteers ages 16 and 17 to this unique program abroad. You will develop into a global citizen while spending time with peers from India and working within local communities. For 2 – 8 weeks or longer, you will genuinely gain an insight into Indian culture and contribute to the overall goals of your chosen project—Childcare, Women Empowerment, or Teaching. You will also participate in extra activities, apart from volunteer responsibilities. These may include sharing meals with a local family, a sari-dressing workshop, and yoga sessions. As a 16 or 17-year-old volunteer in India, you need to be ready to travel and meet new friends. You should be open to new ideas and situations, from eating local food to working in communities that are highly different from anything you have seen before. You should be self-motivated and able to work in a team.

What support is provided in this volunteer program?

We understand that, as a young person and as parents of that young person, there might be concerns about safety and support. Kaya has round-the-clock online support and on-the-ground support from project managers who are also trained in first aid and safety best practices. If you have any specific questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to the Kaya advisors!

Will meals be provided?

Yes, each volunteer will be provided with three meals per day! Volunteers will also be provided with packed lunches on their weekend excursions! So there's no need to worry about you or your child eating while in India!

What is the accommodation like for this project?

The accommodations are simple yet fully equipped and safe! Volunteers will share a room with an ensuite bathroom with another volunteer of the same sex. Shared areas such as the dining room, lounge, and kitchen area are great spaces for teens to socialize.

Why should 16 and 17-year-olds travel alone?

Traveling alone or with a group of other young people can really help young people venture out of their comfort zone and gain confidence and independence! When teenagers immerse themselves in different countries and cultures, they are exposed to different experiences, which can encourage them to have an open mind and great social skills.
