Join our Sustainable Economic and Community Development volunteering in Ecuador. Work with local families striving to preserve their environment, culture, and values while creating a sustainable livelihood.

You will take part in an NGO-supported forestry project that incorporates ecotourism, jam making, dairy processing, and organic gardening. This initiative is also supported by scientific research focused on preserving cultural specialism, fauna, and flora in the area. It is a wonderful opportunity to get involved in the community and economic development.

To join this program, you must:
- Confident Spanish speaker (level B2 Independent User of CEFR)
- Flexible and creative
- Patient and understanding
- Possess a can-do attitude

Volunteers interested in organic gardening, horticulture, early childhood education or community development will enjoy this placement.

What skills do I need as a community & conservation volunteer?

There are no specific requirements other than Spanish knowledge. Since you will be engaging in the following activities, it would be great to have interests in;

I speak intermediate Spanish, is that enough to volunteer in Ecuador?

Yes! If you can speak Spanish independently, you will manage just fine! We recommend you are at least at a B1 level CEFR. If you have any questions about the project, or if you are not sure of your level, reach out to our advisors to discuss more!

Where is the economic & community volunteer project located?

The project is located in a small town just outside Quitom, called Yunguilla. Yunguilla is situated high up in the Mindo Cloud Forest, where it is rich in wildlife, vegetation and beautiful scenery.

What can I do during my weekends in Ecuador?

Yunguilla is 1 hour outside of Quito. When you’re not taking in the beauty of the Cloud Forest, you are able to spend your spare time venturing into the city. Join the locals in museums, bars and restaurants, dancing and enjoying the local music!

What is included in the price of the program?

The following is included in the price of the program;

  • Accommodation at a homestay with hot running water
  • Stay in a hostel in Quito
  • 2 meals are provided each day
