No plans for spring break? Enjoy a meaningful time off from school in this volunteering program abroad! Join the Spring Break Volunteering on a Sustainable Community Project in Ecuador.

Contribute to this economic and community development initiative that supports 50 families in their battle to preserve their community and cultural identity. You’ll be involved in various activities, which could include:
- Environmental education for local school children
- Jam making, food processing, or local cheese production
- Physical agriculture work on family farms
- Community-based activities such as maintaining camping trails and developing composting systems

To join our Spring Break Volunteering on a Sustainable Community Project in Ecuador, you are not required to have any specific skills apart from Spanish. You will need to be a confident Spanish speaker (level B2 Independent User of CEFR) to participate in activities and to gain the most out of the project and your homestay placement. You should also be flexible, patient, creative, and possess a can-do attitude.

What is the role of the Spring Break Volunteer?

You will be engaging in the following activities:

  • Environmental education at schools
  • Forestry research
  • Women’s Empowerment: planting & harvesting plants with locals
  • Community work: on family run farms & campsites
  • Local food production- cheese & jam making

Do you need to know how to speak Spanish?

For this specific program, volunteers are required to speak Spanish confidently (level B2 CEFR). This is due to the program's remote nature, to help you communicate with locals, those you will be working with and of course, your homestay hosts!

How old do you need to be to volunteer in Ecuador?

Volunteers must be 16 and over to take part in this volunteer program in Ecuador. If you have any questions for your child or for yourself, don’t hesitate to reach out to our Kaya advisors!

Where is the volunteer program situated?

The program is located in 3 different places over the course of your placement after arriving in Quito initially:

  • Day 1: Laguna Quilotoa - villages and lagoon
  • Day 3: Yunguilla - small village 1 hour from Quito
  • Day 6: Quito - a bustling city
