Summer Study Program in Martinique: France Differently!

by: JD Agency Experience

Discover a different side of France this summer in Martinique, a French-speaking island in the Caribbean where European, African, and Caribbean cultures meet. This 3-week Summer Study Program (with an optional 4th week) combines host-family immersion, morning French classes, and themed afternoon activities. Students improve their speaking and listening while exploring topics such as environment, energy, history, and contemporary Caribbean life. Depending on your session, you might restore mangroves with a local NGO, visit energy sites, record a podcast, or help write a collaborative book. You will also enjoy island life through beach time, hikes, cooking workshops, and cultural visits. Run by a US-based educational travel company founded by a French-Caribbean director, the program offers small groups, structured support, and 24/7 on-site assistance. Ideal for motivated high school students with at least one year of French who want a serious immersion experience in a unique Francophone setting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is this program for?

This program is for motivated high school students (around ages 14–17) who want to improve their French through real immersion in a French-speaking environment. It’s a great fit if you’re curious about the French Caribbean, open to living with a host family, and ready for a structured but hands-on summer abroad.

What level of French do I need?

You should have completed at least one year of French (or equivalent). You don’t need to be fluent, but you must be willing to try speaking in class, with your host family, and during activities. Staff can support you as needed, but the goal is to use French as much as possible every day.

Where will I stay in Martinique?

Students stay with carefully screened host families. You share meals, daily routines, and conversations with them, which is one of the most powerful parts of the immersion. We consider diet, allergies, and interests when placing students, and we stay in close contact with families throughout the program.

Is the program safe and supervised?

Yes. JD Agency Experience is a US-based educational travel company founded by a Martinican director. We work with trusted local partners, use private transportation for program activities, and keep a high adult-to-student ratio. There is 24/7 on-site support and a clear safety and emergency protocol for all.

What kind of volunteering or fieldwork is there?

Depending on the session, you may support an environmental NGO, observe marine or coastal ecosystems, visit energy sites, or interview local professionals. You contribute to a real project such as a podcast or collaborative book, gaining concrete experience you can highlight for school, college, or future applications.
