Veterinary Internship in San Jose, Costa Rica
Program Overview
Join IVI in Costa Rica! Gain hands-on experience in animal healthcare. Gain insight into current systems, practices, and challenges while working alongside veterinary doctors, small clinics, and rescue centers in San Jose—the capital city.
Project Tasks
Assist with routine animal care, including examinations.
Observe and support diagnoses of various injuries and illnesses.
Help prepare animals for surgery.
Monitor post-operative recovery, collect data, and update patient records.
Engage with the animals and their owners, offering education on proper care, nutrition, and training.
Program Deliverables
All interns must submit weekly journals and complete a final deliverable:
Practicums (less than 8 weeks): A 10 to 20-page paper OR a one-hour PowerPoint presentation
Internships (8 weeks or longer): A 10 to 20-page paper AND a one-hour PowerPoint presentation
As part of your program, you’ll receive daily one-hour Spanish lessons personalized to your proficiency level and work schedule.
