Medical program Arusha, Tanzania
August 01, 2025by: Silke Roymans - BelgiumI spent 3 weeks in Arusha attending the medical program. Highly recommended for medical students! I had just finished 3 years of medicine. You could apply your knowledge very well in the medical Outreach programs, these were really great. You could help a lot of people. Tanzania is a very beautiful country, beautiful nature and warm people. The volunteer house is pleasant and I made many new friends. The local team takes good care of you and you can go to the coordinators with all your questions. This was a unique experience for me and will always stay with me!!! Thank you IVHQ!
Unforgettable Medical Volunteer Experience in Tanzania
May 13, 2025by: Gillian Olson - United StatesVolunteering in Tanzania through IVHQ was one of the most meaningful experiences I’ve ever had. I joined the medical program for six weeks, and each day gave me new insight into global healthcare and life in a low-resource setting. I worked in a local hospital and also participated in community outreach, which allowed for more one-on-one interaction with patients. The staff were welcoming and patient, and I learned so much by observing and supporting their work. Outside of the clinic, the cultural immersion was just as valuable. I met amazing people. Both other volunteers and locals had the chance to learn basic Swahili, explore the area, and even go on weekend trips. The in-country support team was helpful and made sure we felt safe and informed. This experience confirmed my passion for medicine and made me more aware of the challenges and resilience in global health. It was humbling, inspiring, and incredibly rewarding. If you’re thinking about volunteering abroad, I highly recommend this program. Go in with an open mind, a willingness to learn, and a respectful attitude, and you’ll come out with memories and lessons that last a lifetime.
They were always willing to help
February 14, 2024by: Nancy HutchinsonI learned a lot about the culture, the people and a healthcare system very difference from my own. It was a eye-opening experience to see how people manage with such limited resources. The staff I worked with at the hospital were incredibly skilled and knowledgeable about the population they served. I recommend you come with an open heart, a positive attitude and a willingness to engage with the people, and you will have an amazing experience. Be flexible. If something isn't working out, let the team know. They were always willing to help. They are the kindest people I have ever met.
