Great Experience

March 13, 2026by: Ryan Barno - United States

Everything was very smooth and straight forward. They gave me all of the information I needed for my visa and all the contact information I would need once I arrived. Everything they said would happen, happened just as they said. Everyone was very welcoming, from the people who ran it to the village I was in. The location of service was great to assist. The team who took care of us in the house was very nice. They always checked in with is and even adjusted food as people requested. They all helped and control everything they could and supported us if there was anything they couldnt. It was an overall great experience and I cannot wait to do it again!

My program stay was for 8 weeks and it was one the greatest experience of my life! Right from the beginning, the local staff (especially Evans) were really welcoming and supportive. At first I was mainly involved with sports teaching (football) but the program is pretty flexible and I got an opportunity to teach grade 4 kids at a school and go on multiple malaria outreaches to various schools around the district. I wish I could've stayed for a longer time as there was not a single moment of boredom thanks to the other volunteers, the local kids and especially to my program coordinator Giles and 'The Boss' Evans who make this program so extraordinary!

Sports teaching

I just completed my 8 week program of sports Teaching in Frankadua, Ghana. It has been no doubt one of the most amazing experiences of my life so far. From the moment we landed in Ghana, IVHQ staff was there to ensure safety and security until we had left. During the program, IVHQ staff located in Frankadua were more than welcoming and treated everyone with respect. As a sports teacher, you would regularly go to schools and teach P.E. as well as coaching after school sports teams. If you are ever considering doing any volunteering with IVHQ, don’t hesitate as it was an amazing experience that I will never forget.

I visited Ghana with IVHQ September 2017 for 8 weeks. I can easily say it was the best experience of my life. The staff, community and other volunteers were all so welcoming, friendly and co-operative and truly made it my most enjoyable trip i've ever been on. I've made friends for life and will definitely be returning.

I wish I didn't have to leave

My time with IVHQ helping to teach and coach sport in Ghana was without a doubt one of the best experiences I've ever had. The organization, staff and other volunteers were all extremely welcoming and professional, whilst still amazing people to get to know in a social aspect. Whilst on my course I was also given the chance to help with a medical outreach which was amazingly rewarding. My program was originally for 10 weeks, however I had to leave after 4 due to a family issue. My only regret of the entire experience was that I couldn't stay longer.

My placement in Frankadua Ghana was wonderful! The other volunteers were friendly, the people of the town were welcoming and kind, and the IVHQ staff was super supportive. Evans, one of the IVHQ staff members, was always a phone call away if you needed him. He also took a group of us on a trip to Cape Coast our first weekend, which was a lot of fun. Having him there was a huge help in terms of getting around and communicating with locals. He also was well organized and kept us on track to see as many cool sites as possible.

Sports coaching volunteer

A very enjoyable volunteer experience. Frankadua had a lovely community and the children their really appreciate your present. It was particularly rewarding delivering PE sessions to the school children who didn't participate in a variety of sports, where football was most popular. Unfortunately I was only there for a short period of time so my help was not particularly wanted with regards to the football sessions, the coaches in Ghana do like to lead the sessions, but I may have had a different experience if I was there for longer. Overall, it was one of the best times of my life, very affordable and the people I volunteered with and the people of Frankadua were extremely welcoming and friendly.

It is great that you were able to take a rewarding PE session with the students and we will follow up with the local team to see if there can be more opportunities like this for the shorter-term volunteers. Thanks for your feedback and for being an IVHQer!

Amazing Ghana IVHQ purple program July 2016!!

My name is Carlos Arencibia Fernández, and it has only been a couple days since I came back from one of the greatest experiences that I have had during Summer abroad!! I took part in the Sports and Coaching Program offered by IVHQ In Ghana, specifically in Frankadua, and I have to say that it was great. The kids that me and the other volunteers had to train were always very energetic, even during the final exams week, and loved playing sports, especially Football/Soccer, but they also liked to try other things like basketball and volleyball. Apart from that I also got take part in some teaching activities, the organization is very flexible and makes it so you can try any other volunteering program that you wish. I also got to enjoy myself a lot during the weekends doing some very exciting trips around Ghana and getting to visit places like Cape Coast. I think the best part for me was getting to meet a great bunch of people in the form in the other volunteers. As a final remark I would like to give a big THANK YOU to every IVHQ member in Ghana that helped to make this such a wonderful experience, so that goes to: Edward, Benedict, Maggie, Evans, Joe, etc. It was an amazing experience that I would most definitely repeat and recommend to everyone!!!!
