Elderly Care Volunteering with IVHQ in Zambia

Volunteers on the Elderly Care program in Livingstone, Zambia, provide vital support and companionship to seniors living in care facilities who may otherwise be alone or under-resourced. You will help with daily care tasks such as serving meals, assisting with personal needs, supporting hygiene and mobility, helping keep communal areas clean, and performing light maintenance or gardening as needed. Volunteers also spend time simply being present — offering conversation, social support, and a caring presence to help residents feel seen and valued.

Your involvement helps improve the physical well-being and emotional health of older people who lack stable family care. Many residents rely on these facilities for basic needs and social connections, making volunteer contributions especially meaningful. You will be part of a team helping ensure dignity, comfort, and a sense of community for individuals who might otherwise be vulnerable and isolated.

This program is open to volunteers aged 18 and above, including families. Placements typically run from one to sixteen weeks, with daily commitments of up to five hours.
