Teaching English to Young Learners Specialty TEFL Course

I really enjoyed the videos our course instructor left in our peer participation section. SO helpful! However, I really wish this course was one week longer. Reason being is so we can have one extra week to write lesson plans. It would be great to learn from our mistakes and have an opportunity to improve and include that in the 2nd lesson plan we make.

If the rest of my specialty courses go the same way that this one did, I have no doubt that I will be a much more capable tutor/teacher when all is said and done. Kelli is a very knowledgeable individual and teacher with a lot of great feedback and teaching ability. I would not mind having her as an instructor for one of the next 3 specialty courses I'll be taking in the near future.

I had a rough go during my initial TEFL course, but Rhonda Petree renewed my faith during this TEYL course! She was amazing, participating alongside us and giving excellent encouragement and feedback. I really appreciated the extra resources she provided! I enjoyed the course content. I felt that the written tasks were helpful in applying the knowledge and challenging me to consider how I would apply it in class.

The course content was well organized and kept me engaged. The difficulty was at an appropriate level and gave me the opportunity to think critically for the assignments, without being overwhelming. Rhonda the professor was very kind, helpful and shared many resources. I would definitely take another course with her in the future.

I thought our weekly peer questions were very good and encouraged us to be open and share our opinions and experiences with each other. We also were asked to include a question for our peers to respond to that helped us to engage with each other even though we were only in class with each other for a short time.Very enjoyable course!

Teaching Young kearners has always been my passion so I could have easily enjoyed a course with much more content but having had experience with young learners previously, I would say it is a good brief introduction to the world of young learners.

Jesica has been such a great instructor for this class. She went above and beyond to make sure that all of my questions were answered. I came to her office hours and had some questions about teaching in Spain and she followed up afterwards with an email full of resources and information. She even reached out to one of her colleagues that taught in Spain to gather information that may be useful to me. She provided thoughtful feedback on my assignments and helped me to better understand the material. I wish that I could take another class with her.

Thank you very much for offering these classes online! I feel as it was more productive than I could have imagined! I really appreciate the quick responses from my instructor. My online class was interrupted by several doctors visits and a trip to the emergency room. She was very helpful in coaching me and giving me options for the future. I have tried to complete all my tasks without to much delay. The course on Young Learners has been really interesting and is an area I know very little about. This is my fourth course with the International TEFL Academy. I have enjoyed all of them! Thank you

The class was very interactive and very fun! The feedback given and interaction were very helpful. The feedback given during peer participation was helpful and very welcome. If you want to teach English in a school setting with kids, this is a great introduction to the field.

Could have been another week longer. I liked the main project assignments, but wish there was one in-between week 1 and 2. I wanted there to be an assignment that was a partial lesson plan or something like "create a Young learner activity strategy." in order to make me feel more comfortable in creating my own young learner activities. That said, I learned a ton and will take away a lot going forward.

It was very enlightening to see how different it is to teach young learners, and I appreciated the different strategies and techniques listed in the text. The instructor was very engaging and I also enjoyed the peer engagement assignments.

I think there could be more course content and/or assignments. Two weeks is so short compared for the amount of content (and potential content) compated to the 11 week certification course. The professor was great - gave good constructive criticism that will help me improve my skill set going forward. I also found the textbook to be very useful. I will keep it as a reference when I teach ESL children. I love the resources, the lesson examples, and the activity ideas!!

The course content was appropriate to the length and time. My instructor was very helpful, she provided all the information that I needed. Her comments on my assignments were very helpful. Moodle was okay, but I did not like the mobile version. It was not so user-friendly.

As a teacher, the class was great, but I would have liked more in-depth content about teaching English to young learners.Perhaps a longer course with more countent would have been better. I didn't feel like I learned any new content that I didn't know before taking this course.

Although the course length worked well with my schedule, I do think it would be more effective in a longer format, perhaps 3 or 4 weeks. If I had not simultaneously completed the TEFL certification course, I probably would have been a bit overwhelmed. My instructor was knowledgeable, friendly and intentional.

As an older student, I was amazed that this course and the content was as accessible as it was. Even I could use it! I used the book and the digital version. I think the ideas and samples are most helpful. I did have problems with some of the resources listed not being accessible. I would like to save (bookmark) the youtube examples and other resource materials. I emailed many questions to the professor and always received answers and encouragement. Ms. Nkouaga never made me feel stupid. She accepted my curiosity and fumbling with materials and subjects. She added great ideas to the Peer Forum that were great for the interactive parts of the course.

I wish this class was extended to learn more. I have no experience with young learners so it was sometimes difficult to fully understand everything in such a short amount of time. Jesica was a very positive instructor and was great at making sure she interacted with her students. Would love to take a class with her again!

This course was very helpful in creating lesson plans specifically for young learners, I learned a lot especially in the second chapter. I have nothing bad to say about Jesica - the instructor. She was very helpful when giving us feedback on our tasks and was always kind. I'm glad she was my instructor for this course and I would love to take another course with her.

This specialty TEFL course was helpful, I'm going to use a lot of what I've learned in this course going forward. The professor gives amazing feedback and is very helpful, which isn't something you always get with an online course. Definitely a good option.

I am very satisfied with this course and would recommend it to a friend. The video tutorials were very helpful, and the teacher's messages on the different forums and announcements were encouraging and positive. If you want to advance your TEFL career beyond your primary TEFL course, this is a great way to go.

I have had 2 fantastic experiences withInternational TEFL Academy courses. I was a bit worried about doing courses online, but the quality of materials and the teaching staff has exceeded my expectations. Thank you! My teacher - Karen - did a great job encouraging dialogue between us all on the forum and made a point to add her own comments, which was really nice. I had difficulty with scheduling at one point and she went out of her way to make sure I was able to work around it. The only downside is that this course is not longer! I would love to have an extended course on TEYL.

I enjoyed how the instructor shared their experience teaching in Japan - it really made the experience relatable. I also recommend buying the course textbook. The material is in the course, but getting the textbook will definitely be helpful to have as a reference going forward when I'm actually teaching.

The course content was very helpful and I feel more prepared for the young learner classroom, which can present unique challenges and rewards. She was very positive and encouraging. I felt that my input and work were valued. It was great to have her as a teacher and mentor.

This course provided a lot useful information that will help me better deliver an engaging educational experience to my young learner students. Also, the professor provided many opportunities for the students to engage and share ideas which was beneficial and not something one expects from a two-week online course.

The course content was very thorough and organized well. It did a great job explaining the differences between teaching young learners versus adults and the activity examples were very useful when creating my own lesson. I will more than likely purchase the textbook once my online access runs out to use for future reference. The instructor was very thorough and concise when discussing our assignments and the requirements for each project. I really appreciated the feedback I received from her and it was very helpful in looking back to see where I could have improved. I also enjoyed how much she contributed to the peer participation. It was nice having her join in our discussion to reinforce points/ideas we made while adding additional insight to our discussion.

This course was extremely beneficial for me. I'm going to be teaching young learners in Taiwan soon, so I'm very happy I decided to take this course. I feel much more prepared to tackle the task of teaching young leaners after learning the content I've learned in these two weeks.

This was my fourth and final ITA course, and I thought it was excellent. My goal presently is to teach adults but given the quality of the other ITA courses I have taken, and my desire to be as well-rounded as possible as an English teacher, I thought it would be a good idea to take the TEYL course, and I was not disappointed.

Excellent course.I am glad to have this extra course for Young Learners to have a better understanding and preparation for teaching young learners. I look forward to putting it all into practice when I head out to teach in Asia.

This was an enjoyable and informative course. I'm very satisfied with learning experience. The course content was insightful and helped me learn to consider aspects of teaching that I hadn't thought of before. I'm also actually surprised at how much I could learn in a 2-week online course.

I appreciated the peer discussion topics in this course. I would have really appreciated feedback (positive or constructive) on my lesson plans along with the grade. This would have given me more clarity on what I can work on next! I enjoyed this course. Thank you!

It was very useful and provided a lot of templates and sample activities that I plan to use in teaching my own class! Kelli was very nice and knowledgeable, and graded our work with lots of feedback and positive praise! I feel inspired to begin the next chapter of my teaching career in Japan!

This is a great course if you've never taught young learners before. It seemed to build off of the material from the general TEFL course which is very helpful. I really like how it builds on the concepts that the I've already learned.They were very easy to contact and graded my assignments in a timely manner. Their feedback was helpful as well and I feel more confident teaching young learners.

I enjoyed peer participation and the helpful feed back my instructor Kelli gave. This gave me great tips for teaching in the future.I think the text book will be a great reference later when I myself am teaching in a classroom setting. Also, I prefer this Moodle platform over Blackboard.

I have a strong background in teaching. I also have a strong background in English and other languages. There was no information in this course that was new to me, but it was nice to get a good review of educational theory and practices in the context of TEFL.

The course was very helpful for someone like me who had no background when it comes to teaching young learners. The course tasks were a great way to start practicing on how to prepare lesson plans for young learners' classes. I hope we had additional weeks to furthermore practice and enhance our skills and gain a bit more confidence in handling young learners' classes. Otherwise, it was a great class!
