Teach English Abroad with Your TEFL Certification from International TEFL Academy

I went to Barcelona for my TEFL class in 2019 because I wanted to tour graduate schools to find the master's program of my dreams. I was nervous about traveling alone internationally for the first time and thought that it would be a waste to be in Spain for over a month with nothing to show for it when my trip came to an end. That's when I decided that getting TEFL certified would be a great way to spend my time in Barcelona between college visits; as a bonus, I could teach English on the side when my program starts. I didn't know what I was getting myself into. I nervously excited booked my flight and started my TEFL journey. When I arrived in Barcelona my TEFL advisors had already helped me set up housing with these two lovely girls who welcomed me and gave me tips about the city. One of the girls was even a graduate of ITA. She was so helpful and gave me advice on my coursework and even let me practice some of my skills with her. My TEFL instructors we wonderful people and even better teachers. I learned more in my one-month TEFL program than I did in most of my college courses. After my TEFL course ended I went back home to the States and continued working to save money for my master's program. I moved to Barcelona in 2020 during the middle of the pandemic and because of my TEFL certificate, I was able to teach English online to pay for my rent and other expenses for the next two years. During that time I met my partner who just so happened to also be a TEFL-certified English teacher. We bonded over our teaching experiences, traveling, and the fact that we both taught for the same online English tutoring platform. Currently, we live together and teach in Seoul, South Korea. Since moving here I have paid off half of my student debt from my Master's program and will have the other half paid for by the end of my contract. ITA has allowed me to meet wonderful people, graduate with a Master's, find the love of my life, live and teach in South Korea, and pay off all of my student debt. I will be forever grateful.

The recruiter for TEFL, Joe Yoon was knowledgeable of the program and offered excellent advice. His praise of the program was spot on. The content was everything I was looking for. It was practical, grounded in theory and research, and really left me feeling well-equipped to teach ESL. The material was clearly presented. The TEFL platform is extremely user-friendly. The course has checkboxes that automatically fill in when you have completed certain requirements so you always know where you are and what you still need to do. The instructor for my course, Micah Colbert, was very invested in the course. He communicated effectively, was always very quick to reply to emails and was both professional and approachable in his interactions. It was very evident that he not only knew a lot but was passionate about teaching English. I highly recommend ITA to anyone looking to be equipped as an ESOL/TEFL teacher.

I couldn't say enough positive things about ITA. The advisors and instructors really made me feel like they care about me and my experience and future, which is really comforting. The resources for job search guidance are amazing and they had all the answers to all of my questions. The overall course was also pretty helpful and does a great job of preparing people from all walks of life with no prior teaching knowledge to become really great teachers.

I was practically a different person a year ago. I made the decision to take this course to to give direction to my life and it has become much more. The course has become a gateway to a better life and an existence I feel I was meant for.

Before choosing a TEFL course it's easy to get caught up in all of the reviews and blog posts about what you want/need from certification. I chose to get TEFL certified through ITA, because I knew someone else who had done it. Honestly, he didn't tell me a lot about what to expect from the course. All that you need to ask yourself is how much are you willing to give to be a teacher overseas? If that answer is - just about anything within reason - then this class is for you. It was a long month, but I am sorry to be leaving. You will feel equipped with all of the resources you need to grow as a teacher and an even more necessary support network of active ITA alumni. I can not recommend this course enough.

Please take this course if you are considering moving abroad and have been thinking that your lack of teaching experience is your Achilles heel. I found this course absolutely empowering and resourceful and I without a doubt believe that you will, the reader who is reading this, will benefit from taking this course as much as I did.

This was very intense but truly a great experience. I got lucky with my classmates that really made the experience memorable. The instructors are knowledgeable, helpful and give excellent feedback. I think there is a little too much work for the course.

Having no formal teaching experience, this institution taught me everything I needed to know to begin teaching. By the end of the course, I felt very comfortable in front of the class. Pre- and post-course resources are fantastic and the instructors are extremely knowledgeable and capable. This course will make you think about linguistics differently and prepare you for a variety of situations. The accreditation is great and you will have a lot of fun and many opportunities!

I`m in my last week of taking the online 170 hour TEFL course with this company in Costa Rica. At first I had reservations about it, as there are much cheaper courses available online, but I thought "You get what you pay for", so signed up. I`ve found it is to be fun, educational and challenging. Somedays have been super easy, yet other days have been hard. Although the course is 170 hours, which is 150 hours of study with 20 hours of practicum ( teaching, observing etc) I found myself doing more than the 15 hours a week. Maybe this was because I`m a perfectionist, I don`t know, but I wanted my assignments to be good. The tutor online was great, Meghan, and marked the work fairly and always advised how you can improve. Overall, I would recommend this course, and the good thing is, that I have already secured a job in Costa Rica

I've had a great time completing my online TEFL certificate. It's been challenging but fun. One needs to be dedicated and work hard to see the results. Now at the end of my course I realize that it was all worth it.

Overall I really enjoyed the course. Once critique would be when the instructor gives feedback it would be excellent if they shared a visual reference for the students to see what it was supposed to look like vs what the student submitted. The teaching style is definitely not student centered and as a visual and audio learner the lecture style feel of the class often let my mind drift so if there was a way to stimulate more of the visual and audio learners besides putting a few videos in every now and then would be really helpful.
