Meaningful & Affordable Internships in Tanzania

I loved how my internship integrated me in the community and culture. It showed me the ins and outs of Tanzania, the local life and gave me the opportunity to learn a new language to better communicate and engage with the kids. My supervisor did an amazing job showing me what life in Tanzania is really like besides the tourist perspective and we worked as a great team. It helped me to find a real love for teaching sport where it’s valued most, where it isn’t accessible. I appreciated making a real difference and not just going for my own benefit but making a long lasting difference in the lives of those I met, and I’ll remember it and them forever.

This internship was a lifechanging trip that truly helped me grow and mature as an individual. I feel this trip gave me a whole new perspective on life, developed my empathy, adaptability skills and communication skills. I met so many wonderful, like minded people who will be my friends for life. I also feel so much more at peace with myself taking that time away for 3 weeks to experience a new culture, it really benefited my mental health.

I had a great time and learnt a lot. It is such a great initiative gathering people from all walks of life to share culture and diversity, while still bringing hope to people - especially through healthcare. I had great support from my Program Manager Ms Sarah, especially with coordination and guidance. My accommodation was great and comfortable.

I enjoyed learning about the cultural differences and customs of Tanzania as well as within their healthcare system. It was interesting to see the disadvantages they have and see how they systematically go about things with certain setbacks. It was an eye-opening experience and has truly taught me to be culturally aware and flexible!

The intern staff were very helpful with every step. My internship allowed me to improve my problem solving and management skills. I was able to take part in and complete tasks that I would not have had the opportunity to do in the UK. I enjoyed forming positive relationships with patients in the woman's ward, getting to know them and gaining an understanding of their personal situations. I now have a broader understanding of the cultural differences which will absolutely help me in many ways in the future. I've become more confident and resilient in myself. I will not doubt my own abilities after completing the 4 weeks internship program in Zanzibar.

I felt completely supported throughout my internship experience abroad on Zanzibar. I never felt unsure of who to ask for recommendations, tips or advice during my stay, as my Program Manger and local team were so incredibly helpful. While I initially did this experience to complete an internship, I left having learnt life lessons, made lasting connections and feeling comfortable enough to call another country a piece of home!

I enjoyed meeting all the new people from different parts of the world and exploring the beauty of Tanzania. I've learned to be more open and let loose a little. Being able to be more open will definitely help me in my personal and professional development.

I enjoyed so many things, and keep getting asked by friends or family what I loved most. It is so hard to choose because the place, the people, the experiences, the internship, and everything was so life changing for me. The internship really helped me narrow down what I want to do in life, and see a new perspective. It also really helped me with my communication and confidence in the workplace.

The connections I made during my Obstetric Medicine & Gynecology internship in Tanzania that can/will be used for later are important, also general knowledge medical/cultural, and my social skills have improved.

What I enjoyed most about this internship was the opportunity to connect with people from diverse backgrounds and immerse myself in a completely new environment. The relationships I built with my colleagues and the local community were incredibly enriching, and every day felt like a learning experience. Professionally, I gained hands-on experience that deepened my understanding of my field and gave me the confidence to apply my skills in real-world settings. Personally, this internship helped me grow in ways I didn’t expect—I became more adaptable, resilient, and open-minded. It’s shaped not only how I see my career but also how I want to engage with the world going forward.

InternHQ and its partnership with my local team was an amazing experience. Saying that there is an enjoyable part of the trip is quite an understatement because the entire trip was frantic yet blissful. I went to Tanzania for two months and returned to the US as a renewed and restored being. This experience has truly changed my life and my perspective on the world. If anyone has the opportunity to discover a part of the world that is different from their domestic home, I would absolutely recommend that they not second guess the thought, and embark on a new journey so that they may discover part of themselves which have long suffered to emerge!

Interning with Intern abroad HQ has been one of the highlights of my life thus far. I felt well prepared before traveling to the country of my placement, Tanzania, thanks to the staff that was readily available to answer any questions or provide support. The placement itself was absolutely incredible. I never felt unsafe or unsupported throughout the duration of my experience. The local team was kind, humorous, and genuinely really good people, whom I will remain thankful for in years to come. I can not recommend this experience with Intern Abroad HQ enough, as I have gained invaluable hands-on experience, had immense personal growth, and made friendships that will last a lifetime.

During my Social Work & Education internship in Zanzibar, I most enjoyed the lifelong friendships I’ve made along the way. The networking is so so important for my personal and professional development.

I learned so much throughout my four week internship in Zanzibar. I got the opportunity to shadow different departments of Mnazi Mmoja Hospital and to witness the day to day problems that the doctors worked through. It was a great learning experience, and I will forever remember the doctors, nurses, patients, and other interns that I met along the way!

I really enjoyed the Tanzanian culture with Intern Abroad HQ. It was the most amazing opportunity and it was a personal goal of mine but also a professional as I will take this experience with me throughout my career.

My law internship in Tanzania provided me with experiences I would never get in the UK such as going to courts, schools and talking to clients. It truly was one of the best and valuable experiences of my life that will help me in the future. The hostel experience, though initially apprehensive about it, was also such an amazing experience where I truly met friends for life. Cannot recommend this enough!

I enjoy meeting new people and learning a new language. I also enjoyed working in a new country and seeing how different the healthcare system was. This internship has helped give me more confidence in my nursing career. I was able to get involved in nursing procedures I would not have otherwise been able to. I have learnt a lot from this experience which will help in my future career.

I enjoyed the vast amount of work experience I received each day from my placement. Although it was a lot of work at times, I learnt a ton about the Tanzanian culture, which will take me far in my future career.

I enjoyed being able to fully indulge in the culture of Tanzania and all the experiences it had to offer. The hospital where I was placed (Emergency Medicine & Surgery) made me feel really welcomed. Thank you Intern Abroad HQ!!

This internship allowed for me to be exposed to my field of interest in ways that I would not be able to until after grad school in the US. It also showed me where I believe I have some weaknesses and also showed me some strength, which I can keep in mind when making future professional decisions. This internship and trip overall helped me grow as a person.
