In the GIS & Reserve Management internship at the Gondwana Game Reserve in South Africa, I got to learn a lot of new things; from all the plants to the animals. It was an experience of a lifetime and I got to spend quality time with people from all over the world. The camp managers were super helpful and taught me so much. I can definitely thank them for fueling my love for wildlife. It was an amazing experience!

The Reserve Management & Research internship at the Kruger National Park in South Africa helped me to immerse myself with the culture and gain a better understanding of what it's like out there. I enjoyed being out in the South African bush. Intern Abroad HQ was able to support me with guidance all along my internship, from before I started up to all the way after. The GIS & Reserve Management internship at the Gondwana Game Reserve in South Africa has given me valuable experience with GIS software as it relates to wildlife conservation. I enjoyed working on a real-world project and getting to feel immersed in the reserve with all of the field work and being based within the reserve. I feel much more empowered in my field after gaining hands-on experience applying GIS to real conservation challenges, such as assessing the suitability of the reserve for black rhino reintroduction. Using GIS to analyse habitat conditions, map vegetation, and evaluate environmental threats gave me practical skills directly relevant to modern wildlife management. Beyond GIS, learning various field data collection techniques broadened my understanding of how spatial data is gathered and validated, which will be invaluable in future projects. Equally important was the opportunity to work alongside people from diverse backgrounds, which sharpened my communication and teamwork skills within an international conservation context.

During my internship, I enjoyed most the opportunity to take on real responsibility and be actively involved in day-to-day work rather than just observing. Being trusted with tasks and contributing to projects made the experience both motivating and rewarding. I especially appreciated working in a team environment, exchanging ideas, and learning from people with different backgrounds and perspectives. The internship contributed significantly to both my personal and professional development. Professionally, I strengthened practical skills such as communication, organization, and problem-solving, and gained a clearer understanding of how theoretical knowledge is applied in real-world situations. Personally, I became more confident, independent, and adaptable, particularly when facing new challenges or unfamiliar tasks. Overall, the internship helped me grow, clarified my interests, and better prepared me for future professional experiences.

I had an awesome experience with the GIS & Reserve Management internship at the Gondwana Game Reserve in South Africa as I learnt a lot and gained useful experience. You are kept busy with interesting lectures, game transects, bird ID, etc... & the wildlife was beautiful!

From start to finish I really enjoyed this Physical Therapy internship in Cape Town. I can't fault it - thank you for this experience! I feel so much more empowered to be successful in my field - I feel inspired and ready for my next academic year and so proud of myself for completing this 4 week internship! I have also booked onto another internship in Spain with Intern Abroad HQ for next summer!

I enjoyed everything about the Social Work internship in Cape Town. The internship helped me to learn more about adverse childhood trauma and the experience is valuable for both my personal and professional development, offering hands-on experience, skill enhancement, and career clarity. It provided a bridge between academic learning and the professional world, assisted with gaining practical skills, built networks, and allowed me to understand my career goals better.

My Program Manager was super helpful and answered all questions I had thoroughly. She was also patient with me as I took care of coordinating, planning, and making my decision to partake in the program. She was also super helpful in helping me in making sure that any additional items I needed covered by this internship with my university were taken care of. I knew that I really wanted to do an internship abroad, but I had never heard of Intern Abroad HQ before. With my interest in non-profit / NGO work, I wasn't immediately sure where to start as there are so many criteria to keep in mind in the process. After I found out about Intern Abroad HQ, I felt heard immediately and my Program Manager ensured that all my needs / interests were met within the program. This internship has really pushed me to get out of my comfort zone, to confront myself with uncomfortable questions, to think and reflect more about how I live my life and how that may indirectly affect other people. It also gave me a better awareness of the world beyond my direct surroundings. Ultimately, it allowed me to appreciate the world around me and what I have in my life -- it helped me to see how I can actively cause change in the world and be a global citizen. Professionally, this internship allowed me to gain meaningful experience and skills in a field that I'm interested in. There's a lot you can learn through books, other people, documentaries, and the internet in general, but there's something invaluable in getting yourself out there and experiencing something for yourself. The people in Cape Town know from first hand experiences what living in Cape Town is like, both the good and the challenges, and it's incredibly valuable to gain experiences that allow you to hear new perspectives and truly try and understand people, rather than assuming that we have an understanding that may predominantly be based on biases. Acknowledging this has helped me to see the world around me and leave my own biases behind, which is an extremely valuable skill to have in this field. It has also allowed me to see what skills I already have, where some of my strengths are, as well as where I still need to learn and see my own weaknesses, too. Before arriving, I was skeptical that it was too good to be true - the amount I learned and could apply exceeded what I thought I’d do in 8 weeks. The experience still exceeded the high expectations I already had. I never wanted to leave and I appreciated my time with all the team members and wildlife. I highly, highly recommend this to anyone, and just remember: the impact and what you take away from this is largely up to you. You will receive multiple layers of support from your Program Manager, in-country coordinator and supervisor. My Program Manager was amazing through and through. All questions and concerns were addressed promptly and always in a friendly, supportive manner. The 8 weeks I spent at the Gondwana Game Reserve were nothing short of phenomenal. There were always opportunities to grow personally and academically in more ways than I could expect. The camp managers were excellent in running the camp in a way that felt friendly but structured, and were always there when you needed it - whether it was a laugh or advice.

The Marketing internship in Cape Town was amazing! The internship contributed to my long term goals as it taught me how to work with a team, SEO / social media skills, marketing research methods and gave me a better send of understanding what a real job is like. I loved getting to live with people from all over the world and seeing a new place with them.

The Psychology internship made me realize how much I still have to learn to become the psychologist I aspire to be and it was incredibly motivating. The internship truly felt like a childhood dream coming to life, and it also confirmed for me that this is exactly the kind of work I want to pursue.

I enjoyed making connections and creating experiences with peers with similar interests and different backgrounds. These connections and memories are deep and I will carry them with me for the rest of my life. The whole experience with the Wildlife, Ecology & Anthropological Research Internships in Mogalakwena was really transformative and helped me find clarity with all the uncertainty that the future brings. I will apply this experience professionally and I am certain that the internship has prepared me for the next steps on the path I am taking.

Through this internship experience, I discovered the value of adaptability and openness in building connections. By me stepping out of my comfort zone and actively participating in discussions, I was able to foster an inclusive environment. I learned to appreciate the nuances of people’s culture and share my own experiences, which led to more meaningful interactions. This approach transformed my internship into an opportunity for growth, allowing me to form friendships that transcended language barriers and deepened my understanding of global perspectives. The internship at Gondwana Game Reserve has empowered me to be successful in my field of biology. The international experience I've gained has given me a unique edge that sets me apart from many of my peers. Working in a real-world conservation setting in South Africa has provided me with practical insights and skills that are hard to acquire in a classroom setting alone. The hands-on experience with GIS in a conservation context has been particularly valuable. I've learned how to apply GIS tools to real conservation challenges, such as fire risk assessment and habitat mapping. This practical application of GIS has deepened my understanding of the technology and its potential in environmental management. I've also broadened my perspective on global conservation issues, gained insights into how different cultures and communities approach environmental challenges, which I believe will be invaluable in my future career.The networking opportunities have been empowering. I've made connections with professionals in the field, both local and international, which could open doors for future collaborations or job opportunities. I feel more prepared and confident in my abilities to contribute meaningfully to conservation efforts. The combination of international experience and practical GIS skills has given me a solid foundation to build upon as I move forward in my career.

My time at the Gondwana Game Reserve went above and beyond any expectations I had. The past four weeks were of incredible growth, both professionally and personally. This internship was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I am beyond grateful for. It was hard to choose only one thing, but the internship provided me with immense personal and professional growth in ways I could have not imagined. I gained so much data-collection experience, from game transects, the bird point counts, helped with the Elephant Reintegration Trust program, learned about the incredible local flora and fauna, and forged lasting connections and friendships I intend to keep nurturing in the coming years. It was also incredibly rewarding at the end to be able to successfully complete my personal GIS research project on Cape Mountain Zebra. I enormously appreciated how all the lectures and teachable moments turned into new knowledge and perceptions of the incredible habitats in South Africa that I did not have before. All the staff and peers I met along the way made this beautiful experience one that I will always remember and that it was very hard to say goodbye to. I am beyond grateful for all the staff that supported us with such dedication along our journey.

My GIS & Reserve Management internship at the Gondwana Game Reserve was amazing! I got to see everything I wanted to, learned a great deal and was given all the support I needed. I saw a lot of animals and met many wonderful people. It was the best month of my life!

The Physical Therapy internship was very beneficial for my professional experience because it gave me exposure to real-world applied job experience, improved my communication skills, enhanced my cultural diversity and increased my social network.

This experience has been nothing short of magical and transformative.I've learned to recognize numerous plant and animal species I did not know before. The immersive experiential learning here is incredible, which has allowed me to absorb so much from my surroundings, peers, mentors, and even myself. From early morning birding sessions, where we identify birds by their sounds and features, to afternoons spent supporting the Elephant Reintegration Trust program, observing elephants in the Protea forest, watching starry nights, spotting newborn zebras in the distance, and observing a mother bushbuck and her little one near our campsite while doing laundry are just a few of the highlights that make this experience so special. Words can’t fully capture the essence of this journey.

My favorite part of the internship was getting to experience the incredible wildlife that inhabits Sodwana Bay alongside my peers. I loved going on adventures with the friends I made and getting to explore the different parts of Sodwana Bay. Getting to observe many different animals in their natural habitat gave me more confidence in my field because I am more familiar with the wildlife I will encounter though my work in the future.

I enjoyed the internship as it made me realise more about what a solicitor would do, which in a few years i would be doing in the UK. I did a lot of practical work; not only theory, which I really enjoyed as a law graduate. I had a lot of practical experience which will be very useful for me.
