This allowed me to connect with people from different parts of the world

I really appreciated and enjoyed how the internship was flexible in a way that I could try out different areas of the hotel, working with different departments instead of staying with one the entire time. I made some really good friends while working there, so this allowed me to connect with people from different parts of the world, and they are people with the same or similar career goals.

I’ve really enjoyed my internship experience

I’ve really enjoyed my internship experience. It was very hands-on. I got to work with marble carving, clay, and painting. It was a great opportunity, and I’m excited to include it in my portfolio and on my résumé. Athens is a beautiful city, and my local team was incredibly supportive. All of the coordinators were kind, helpful, and always available when I needed them.

I appreciated the support from my local team

I chose to intern abroad because I wanted professional experience not only in the arts, but also in working with people from different cultures. I wanted to learn from them, interact in a professional setting, and broaden my perspective. During my internship, I had the chance to learn from many different artists. I attended workshops and classes where they taught me their techniques, which I really enjoyed and learned a lot from. I also appreciated the support from my local team. They communicated everything clearly, were always helpful, and made me feel comfortable asking any questions I had.

The internship has provided me with confidence, insight & motivation to keep developing in my field.

During my internship I enjoyed the balance between exploring Athens and engaging in meaningful, hands-on work. Visiting iconic cultural sites was incredible, but the most fulfilling aspect was the experience I gained at the centre. I participated in therapy sessions, shared ideas, and built connections with both patients and staff. Despite the language barrier, I found ways to communicate and connect, which made the experience even more rewarding. This internship has made a significant contribution to my personal and professional development. Personally, it strengthened my patience, adaptability, and cultural awareness. Professionally, I gained valuable field experience in mental health care, particularly in how art and creative expression can be integrated into therapy for elderly patients. This experience has deepened my interest in pursuing a career that combines psychology with art-based interventions while improving my ability to work in diverse and cross-cultural settings. Overall, the internship has provided me with confidence, insight, and motivation to continue developing in my field.

I am extremely thankful for the opportunity given to me by Intern Abroad HQ

This past summer I had the amazing opportunity to intern in Athens, Greece. During my internship, I worked with patients in a gym/clinic setting, shadowed surgeries, and worked one on one in an inpatient setting. I worked alongside the head Physical Therapist to help assist patients in their bed to increase strength and better their range of motion. Whether it was recovering from a knee replacement surgery or a cancer patient learning how to walk again, each case was very unique in its own ways. This was a very eye opening experience for me working with these patients and making sure they get to where they need to be. During my time in the hospital, my understanding and knowledge of the importance of inpatient physical therapists grew exponentially. I also had the honor of scrubbing in for a surgery and assisting the doctor in successfully operating an ulnar nerve decompression. I am extremely thankful for the opportunity given to me by Intern Abroad HQ and I look forward to applying what I learned in future settings.

I very much enjoyed my time in Greece

The thing I most enjoyed about interning in Athens was experiencing life as a working artist. Engaging with people and making art are the two things I am most passionate about in the world. This internship was an opportunity to do both on a deep and meaningful level. I very much enjoyed my time in Greece and was sad to leave at the end.

My time as a Media and Policy Intern was an incredibly rewarding experience.

My time as a Media and Policy Intern was an incredibly rewarding experience. I had the opportunity to build on my content creation skills; writing articles, producing social media content, and helping with website development. Beyond the technical learning, the team was incredibly supportive and passionate about their work, often going the extra mile to include us in bigger projects. One of the best parts was also the other amazing interns I met along the way. It's an experience I’ll carry with me, both for the skills I developed and the inspiration I found in their commitment to marine conservation.

It’s been such a rewarding experience.

Athens is an amazing city — there was always something to do. The doctors I interned alongside were kind, patient, and always willing to explain things. If you let them know your interests, they make sure to involve you in relevant cases, which I really appreciated. My local team was also fantastic. Their coordination was spot-on, and they were super communicative and helpful throughout the entire process. Honestly, I didn't want to leave — I’d love to come back again. It’s been such a rewarding experience.

Ankita June 2025

This experience has truly exceeded my expectations.

My placement was at a day center, which was fascinating because we don’t really have anything quite like it back home. It’s been eye-opening to see how psychiatric care is approached in a different country. Working with group therapy, helping plan activities, and building one-on-one connections with patients has been incredibly rewarding — something I never imagined I’d get to experience. I’ve also loved being in Athens. There’s so much to do outside of the internship, and the people are so kind and generous. The coordination from my local team was amazing. This experience has truly exceeded my expectations.

My experience has been great

My experience has been great. My first week I worked in physical therapy, and my second week I was in the operating room. It’s been eye-opening, especially since I wouldn’t have had this kind of OR access back in the States. Athens is a beautiful city, very affordable, and the people are friendly and helpful. The program team has also been fantastic — always quick to answer questions. I’d definitely recommend this to others.

I only wish I had more time to spend in Greece with Intern Abroad HQ and my local team

I’ve met some of the coolest people through this experience, and I truly hope to remain lifelong friends with many of them. During my internship, I really enjoyed observing the physiotherapists and doctors. Most were very accommodating of the language barrier while still sharing and embracing their culture. I learned a lot through hand gestures, observation, and immersion. I especially enjoyed the inpatient work with the Cardiorespiratory Physiotherapist. I had the opportunity to see some unique cases and gain insight into what a full day in that role looks like. I also learned new techniques that I hadn’t seen in the U.S., which allowed me to compare and appreciate both the similarities and differences in practice. Overall, I had a blast and was able to integrate into the culture so well that it felt like home. I only wish I had more time to spend in Greece with Intern Abroad HQ and my local team. I can’t wait to return with my family, show them my favorite food spots and introduce them to the amazing people I met during my placement.

This has been an incredible opportunity.

I heard about this program through friends, and I’m so glad I did. I’ve absolutely loved being in Greece. While only on the program for a short time, I’ve had the chance to explore the city and work in the hospital. I was even placed in specialties I hadn’t originally considered, which has helped me become a more well-rounded future doctor. This has been an incredible opportunity.

This experience has shaped not just the direction of my career, but how I want to show up in the world

What I enjoyed most about this internship was the unique opportunity to be immersed in nature while contributing to meaningful environmental work. Being surrounded by the lush forests of Northern Greece, participating in field research, and caring for Greek shepherd dogs allowed me to form a deep connection to both the land and my placements mission. I loved the balance of hands-on work and intellectual engagement—from tracking wildlife and collecting data to having deep conversations about environmental ethics, cultural values, and the complexities of conservation. This internship contributed immensely to both my personal and professional development. Personally, it pushed me far outside of my comfort zone, helping me become more confident, independent, and adaptable. I learned how to navigate new environments, collaborate with people from different backgrounds, and reflect more deeply on my own values and goals. Professionally, I gained valuable field skills in wildlife monitoring, data collection, and species identification, all of which are directly relevant to my interest in environmental policy and sustainability. It also reaffirmed my passion for protecting the natural world and showed me how global conservation efforts can, and must, work in collaboration with local communities. Overall, this experience has shaped not just the direction of my career, but how I want to show up in the world: informed, compassionate, and driven to make a lasting impact.

Intern Abroad HQ has done a fantastic job organizing everything and making the whole experience smooth and enjoyable

I came to Athens because I’m considering becoming a therapist and wanted to explore mental health care in a different culture. Athens is an incredible city — full of history and intrigue — and I’d definitely recommend it. The internship itself was amazing. I did a lot of art therapy sessions, and I’ve learned so much through those experiences. Intern Abroad HQ has done a fantastic job organizing everything and making the whole experience smooth and enjoyable.

I’m incredibly thankful to Intern Abroad HQ for giving me this opportunity

I joined this internship program because it's really hard to find hands-on mental health opportunities — especially ones that allow you to work directly within communities — if you're not yet in graduate school. That’s particularly true in New York City, where those roles are usually reserved for grad students. This is actually my third time in Athens, which made choosing this program through Intern Abroad HQ an easy decision. The city is beautiful, and the people are incredibly welcoming. Even though I don’t speak Greek, it’s been easy to communicate with those around me. A lot of people spoke English, and the team at the day center I interned at were always willing to translate when needed. During my internship, I participated in various day activities and visited both a boarding house and a day center for elderly community members. This experience gave me critical skills — especially learning to immerse myself in a new culture and connect with people from different backgrounds. I’m incredibly thankful to Intern Abroad HQ for giving me this opportunity to step outside North America and gain such meaningful experience.

It’s been a fantastic experience

I chose to intern in Greece partly to practice my Greek and also to compare the hospital work environment here to what I’m familiar with back home in Boston. It's been amazing to explore Athens and experience the cultural differences, especially in food. Everyone in the program has been so accommodating. I mentioned my interest in cardiology, and the hospital staff made a real effort to show me everything related to that field — it’s been a fantastic experience.

This has been a life-changing experience

I came to Athens to work alongside other artists, immerse myself in a new cultural environment and see how art communities form and thrive in different parts of the world. Art and culture are passions of mine, and I’m committed to promoting them back in the U.S. Being in Athens, where so much of Western civilization originated, was truly powerful. The people have been incredibly warm, generous, and open. This has been a life-changing experience, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to expand their worldview and engage with art in a global context.

Sara HerzJune 2025

I truly couldn’t have asked for a better experience

I chose Athens for my internship to meet new people and experience working in a hospital different from those back home. The hospital staff have been incredibly welcoming and supportive. I truly couldn’t have asked for a better experience, and I’d highly recommend this program to anyone considering it.

Being in Greece feels like reconnecting with my younger self

I chose Athens for my medical internship for two reasons. First, I’m an aspiring physician and hope to practice medicine internationally, so this is helping me understand how healthcare works in different countries. Second, I’ve loved Greek culture since I was a kid — especially Greek mythology — so being there felt like reconnecting with my younger self while also growing into the professional I want to become.

Paige Tasin June 2025

This program gave me an incredible opportunity to learn and grow, and I really enjoyed it.

I joined this program because I’m passionate about art preservation and restoration. While I didn’t have much hands-on experience with physical art before coming here, I have a strong background in art history and a deep passion for preserving cultural heritage now. This program gave me an incredible opportunity to learn and grow, and I really enjoyed it.
