Food Rescue in Barcelona
by: ImpacTrip
Work with local volunteer teams in Barcelona on this project, which addresses the contradicting issues of food waste and food shortage. Did you know that 262,000 tons of food are wasted annually in Catalonia? Food waste occurs throughout the food industry, with 40% wasted in production, 5% in distribution, 40% in homes, and 15% in the restaurant sector. This is where you can make a difference! Volunteer at a network of centers collecting excess food from local restaurants, supermarkets, and cafes. What to expect: • Collect perishable food from supermarkets and donations. • Prepare breakfast, lunch, or dinner and serve meals to homeless people. • Assist with loading, unloading, organizing, and the quality control of food donations. • Treat food for freezing and future cooking. • Cook special recipes to maximize the potential of each food item and create quality meals for distribution. Daily tasks: • Pick up food from restaurants, cafes, and supermarkets. • Prepare and serve meals. • Assist with storing and organizing food donations. • Perform quality checks on collected food. • Hand out meal boxes to families, the elderly, and the homeless.

Great work, great people.
March 13, 2026by: Miles Wagner - United StatesI spent 6 weeks working at Assis through ImpacTrip and it was well worth the time. My Spanish speaking abilities were lackluster, but I was still received very well by the locals. Overall, the work kept me busy, the people made it fun, and the location was peak. Thanks Clara, Buse, Davide, Alex, Amalia, and everyone else I met!
Amazing time
January 07, 2026by: Isabel Marsh - United KingdomI had a great time food waste voulenteering in Barcelona. The team at ImpacTrip were all super friendly and very helpful every step of the way. My friend and I felt really involved with the team at Fundacion Tochete and we're very hands on from day 1. I'll definitely look to volunteer with ImpacTrip again!
