As a global city in Spain, Barcelona is an important place for international relations, as well as international business and commerce. Due to the city’s mix of Spanish, English, French, and more, it has strong political ties with the rest of Europe and beyond. It's also the site of a strong regional government and active EU participation. And with its mix of cultures, Barcelona offers the unusual opportunity to see how regional, national, and international views are intertwined.

Going abroad matured myself in the best ways possible with amazing people

Going abroad with IES Abroad was the best decision for my abroad experience. I studied in the politics program where I learned a lot about how Spanish politics work, as well as European politics. I now fully know what is going on with the Catalonia conflict which is cool information to bring back to my politics department at my home university. IES abroad provided me with a fantastic housing experience. I choose to do a homestay and I had an amazing family. I felt at home after the initial two weeks of getting used to living in a new country. My host family was amazing. I never felt alone while I was in Barcelona. IES provided me with a fantastic learning environment but also an amazing social environment. There were a lot of events put on by the Barcelona Cultural companions who worked with IES to help us interact with other students and experience more of the city. I made some amazing friends this way. As well as meeting very friendly people in class or in the building. The location of the IES abroad center in Barcelona was another huge plus. It was great being in the center of the city. I loved my experience with IES Barcelona and I am sure anyone would too!
