The best 10 days in Ghana!
August 20, 2018by: Brooklyn Norton - United KingdomProgram: Women’s Empowerment In Ghana
I have recently returned from Ghana, I was lucky enough to spend 10 days in Elmina with GVI as part of their annual alumni trip. I have volunteered with GVI a few times however this base was totally unique to any other I have experienced, I loved being SO submerged into the culture, and all of the projects were within walking distance to base. My time on project was spent working with a group of amazing young women who were keen to expand their IT skills, for my student it was her first time ever using a computer as they do not have access to computers at school. I was amazed by each students commitment and passion for expanding their skills, and I truly believe in the short time we had with the team we made a huge impact and each student has vastly increased their employability. I would definitely recommend GVI to anyone considering volunteering, so much so my Dad is now volunteering with GVI too!
Women empowerment in Ghana
December 05, 2018by: Addison - United StatesProgram: Women’s Empowerment In Ghana
While in Ghana I learned about the woman's empowerment project that other volunteers were leading. This happened during my first week, while we waited for the classes at the school to begin and lesson planned. Once classes began, I taught mathematics and science with Fredrick. After class, my partners and I would give some type of physical learning activity for the student to do. Throughout my time, I was able to develop relationships with the teachers and students while also experiencing the culture and history of Ghana.
I have had a great time

I have had a great time working on the women's empowerment project here in Kokrobite Ghana. The staff and participants have given me greater understanding of the obstacles the local women face here. This understanding enabled me to put together a talk on health and well being that I felt would be relevant. I'm grateful that the team and Program Manager allowed me to utilise my skills to give something personally to the local women. An all round great experience and if I could I would have stayed for longer. Good luck to GVI Ghana. I wish you all the best and the food was amazing!
