Volunteers joining this project will assist teachers in island communities in the Caqalai Island chain in Fiji. Volunteers will work alongside local teachers working with students typically aged between 4 and 7 years old in one or more of the island communities. Volunteers will work with the children assisting, local teachers to teach English and basic numeracy. On weekends there is time to enjoy the local area, volunteers can go island hopping, snorkelling, scuba diving, partake in cultural activities and enjoy the many adventure activities on offer. Fiji is the perfect location to assist with education and care for the nation's children, spend time in paradise and enjoy a truly exotic culture.

The program was run so well and there was always someone around should I need anything. GVI has such a close relationship with the Silana locals so the whole experience felt so authentic and taught me so much. I met like minded individuals who all looked out for each other. I couldn't recommend GVI Dawasamu enough, I was so sad to say goodbye!

December 13, 2023by: Paige Pixie AtkinsonProgram: Volunteer with Children in FijiMy time in Silana, Fiji with GVI was one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever had. Firstly, despite the preschool having just been closed for Summer, GVI staff on the ground made it possible for me to still volunteer in the local primary school. Spending every day with the children in Silana was eye-opening; they are some of the most positive, happy people I have met. Everyone in the village was unbelievably welcoming and I have never felt so at home somewhere so far away from my real home. I loved how integrated GVI staff and volunteers were in the village, and the numerous opportunities every day to partake in village activities. GVI staff in Fiji helped me to feel safe and welcome throughout my time in Silana. Pick up from the airport and on start date was well organised. I really hope I can return to Silana one day.
