Volunteers on this program will be involved in planning and running various sports lessons and games including football, cricket, athletics, basketball and netball with children from 4 to 14 years. The project is in a local school where you will also at times be assisting local teachers and GVI staff to organise sports events and help run various outdoor activities. Sports is a vital tool that will motivate the students outside of the classroom setting and give children the opportunity to develop various skills and their confidence in general. In your free time you will get a chance to explore the culture of Kerala by taking cooking or yoga lessons, visiting the local sights in Kochi, the enchanting backwaters or the tea and spice plantations in the hill station of Munnar.

Really enjoyed it!
January 23, 2016by: James Fernandes - LondonProgram: Teach Sports in India
Coaching football at Don Bosco youth home, and at Auxilium were the highlights of my project experience. Really enjoyed the responsibility of leading sessions, and learning day by day on how to improve them. Everyone was very welcoming wherever I went, especially at Don Bosco, Auxilium and Thamaraparambu. Loved the living with everyone at base! Really great to get to know everyone, volunteers and staff alike and very much felt like a second family. Location is really nice in Fort Kochi. Side trips were unforgettable experiences for me. I didn't really think about side trips before I arrived, all were planned quite last minute, but all three of my trips were spectacular.
Great!

The most positive and most enjoyable experience while volunteering in sports initiatives in India with Global Vision International (GVI) was the relationship built between all the volunteer and their class.
Well developed!

This project is very well developed and I was impressed all of the things that were provided and promoted aside from the time working with young people - cooking classes, cultural orientation, side trips, cultural performance, etc. I feel like I've found something very special with the GVI Sports Projects so I would like to go over to Kenya with a year or two and create some new experiences over there.
