Mexico Marine Conservation Short-Term Internship

For me, being able to gain my AOW certification and log a good number of dives in a short period of time was wonderful. As well, being able to dive in the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef and assist in gathering data is a great privilege!

My time on the GVI Pez Maya program in Mexico was amazing!! The base was on a white sandy beach with crystal waters and beautiful sunsets. Mornings started with chores and setting up dive kit, the days were then spent diving and working on intern projects. Diving on the coral reefs was incredible, I was amazed by the diversity of animals. The quality of diver training taught at Pez Maya was excellent. I would really recommend working with GVI, they are an excellent company who provide great volunteer opportunities. They provide you with detailed information before the trip and are very helpful if you have any additional questions and worries. In addition, they have such a variety of projects in so many countries that there is something suitable for anyone.

I've learned so much and saw all the sad changes that happen to our reef. After a program like this you can't close your eyes anymore - you're much more aware of problems and wanna change as much as possible. I don't wanna miss a single second of my stay here in Pez Maya. These were lifetime experiences which changed myself a lot and show me that I'm on the right way. They showed me that I wanna go on in the field of (marine) conservation. I'm grateful for all the things I learned here, for all the diving experiences and sciences knowledge I gained. The team on base did a really good job and try everything to make the stay of each volunteer as best as possible.
