I had a great time on bas
March 04, 2023by: Rebecca FieldProgram: Lemon Shark and Turtle Conservation in the SeychellesI had a great time on base. I felt very welcomed which was great as it was my first time solo traveling. It took a minute to get used to the lifestyle, but you soon feel right at home. The other volunteers/interns were great and soon become your family. As they're a small number of us, which was lovely. The staff were very helpful on the hikes, and would help when I struggled in my first week. But soon got used to it and looked forward to exploring more of Curieuse island. BBQ nights were great and we'd all chip in with dishes and bring everyone together. I loved the surveys, especially the shark and turtle surveys. I got to see two turtle nests hatch, which I feel very lucky to have seen. I will miss my time in Seychelles.
My internship was a great experience
February 18, 2023by: Rachel CalderProgram: Lemon Shark and Turtle Conservation in the SeychellesMy internship was a great experience, you become very close with your base family and meet some pretty cool people. The surveys were a vibe, especially the sharking surveys and we got to see baby turtles going into the ocean during a nesting survey. Also to get everywhere is a hike but there are some pretty good views.
My entire experience at GVI has been amazing!
December 07, 2022by: Claire BakerProgram: Lemon Shark and Turtle Conservation in the SeychellesMy entire experience at GVI has been amazing! I have made friends that I will keep for a long time and had experiences that will live with me forever. Living out of touch with the rest of the world in basic conditions right on the beach has been such a wonderful experience and I didn't miss my home comforts at all. Firstly being able to see turtles coming up to lay their eggs were amazing, especially one time when there were only 3 of us on the beach watching one turtle dig her egg chamber and then another turtle started coming up further down the beach and then when I turned to look out to sea there was another turtle coming up right in front of us! We watched the turtles for hours and it was so amazing! This was probably one of my favourite moments. Another one was during sharking where we catch baby lemon sharks and tag them where we had started to catch so many and being able to touch the sharks and release them back into the water was simply amazing no matter how many times I did it. It was also amazing to explore neighbouring islands during days off to see more of the beauty in Seychelles and snorkeling around the island!!
