An incredible, unforgettable experience!

I had an absolutely amazing time in the Netherlands! I stayed in Steenwijk, about two hours away from Amsterdam. My family was so kind and helpful and I met some amazing people! The first week I had an orientation program which was simply amazing. There were people from all over the globe who stayed with me in the hostel. It was like summer camp!

An amazing year abroad!

From August 2022 to July 2023, I participated in Greenheart Travel's High School Abroad program in the Netherlands. This is an amazing program and I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to participate in it. As a young person, it was so valuable to be able to live abroad and experience an entirely new country and culture. I did experience some difficult situations, but Greenheart Travel's staff was absolutely amazing. They were prompt with their email responses and were always very kind. They helped me solve my problems, and helped to make my exchange year a great one! My only issue with this program was the in-country partner organization. They were not very helpful and I wouldn't recommend them. However, Greenheart was absolutely amazing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I get my own bike?

Yes, students in this program get their very own orange bike to use!

How will I get from the orientation to my host family’s city?

Your host family will pick you up on the last day of your on-site arrival orientation.

Will anyone at my host school speak English?

Dutch students are required to study English, so they generally know how to speak the language. However, remember that you are there to learn Dutch! Many students will ask to speak English with you, but remind them that you want to practice your new language skills.

For semester and academic year students, all classes will be in Dutch. For the trimester and two-month programs, you will be enrolled in a bilingual English and Dutch high school.
