7 Days Uganda Gorilla Trek, Chimpanzees and Wildlife Safari

Yes. Gorilla trekking requires a valid permit issued by the Uganda Wildlife Authority. The permit allows visitors to trek and spend one hour with a habituated gorilla family in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Because permits are limited and highly demanded, it is recommended to book them well in advance. Your tour operator normally assists with securing these permits before the safari begins.

Both gorilla trekking and chimpanzee tracking involve walking through forest terrain and can take anywhere from one to several hours depending on the animals’ location. The trek may involve hiking through dense vegetation and sometimes steep areas. However, park rangers assign visitors to groups according to fitness levels, and the guides ensure the pace is manageable for everyone.

This safari offers a wide variety of wildlife encounters across several national parks. During game drives in Queen Elizabeth National Park and other wildlife areas, visitors may see elephants, buffaloes, lions, antelopes, warthogs, and many bird species. The safari also includes chimpanzee tracking in Kibale National Park and gorilla trekking in Bwindi Forest.

Uganda safaris are available throughout the year. However, many travellers prefer the dry seasons from June to September and December to February because the trekking trails are usually easier to navigate and wildlife viewing conditions are excellent.
