To help you prepare for the course, you will receive a pre-course task to complete. Then, we'll send you an answer key a few days before the course. We also recommend that you purchase a methodology book (eg. Scrivener, ‘Learning Teaching’) and a grammar book (eg. Swan, ‘Practical English Usage’), which you can refer to while doing the pre-course task, as well as during and after the course.

Candidates need to put in up to 180 additional learning hours for pre-course preparation during evenings and weekends. This includes time spent on lesson planning and writing assignments during the course and pre-course preparation.

Assessment is continuous and is based on teaching practice and assignments. Progress is communicated to trainees through feedback and grading of individual lessons through tutorials and feedback on written assignments. Tutors agree on the final grade in consultation with an external assessor, who visits the center for one day to moderate grading and ensure that all Cambridge regulations are followed.

CELTA is broadly based on the communicative approach. There is a strong emphasis on student involvement in the learning process and trainees are encouraged to think in terms of learning, rather than teaching.

There is a growing demand for ELT professionals worldwide, and it is becoming more and more necessary to have CELTA in order to enter the global ELT profession.
