Japan – Sea Turtle Conservation Volunteering in Okinawa

Join a meaningful sea turtle conservation volunteer program on the subtropical island of Okinawa, Japan, where you’ll support a respected local organization dedicated to protecting nesting beaches used by green, loggerhead, and hawksbill turtles. Depending on the season, activities include nighttime beach patrols to monitor nesting activity, assisting trained, government-licensed nest technicians, supporting hatchling monitoring and nest analysis, and contributing to long-term data collection and reporting. You’ll also help with beach cleanups, environmental education, community outreach, and occasional rescue support.
