Program Overview

Engage in a unique volunteer program that focuses on the conservation of wild scarlet and great green macaws, and provides refuge for threatened animals in Costa Rica. Based in the beautiful region of Puntarenas, you'll work alongside a dedicated team of international volunteers and local experts. You'll be involved in various tasks, from preparing food for hundreds of animals to monitoring activities and maintaining the facility. This program also includes a Spanish language and culture week in San Jose, enriching your volunteer experience with cultural insights.

The minimum requirements for this program include:
- Full vaccination against COVID-19
- Yellow fever vaccination certification for volunteers coming from South America or Africa
- Basic Spanish (recommended)
- At least 18 years old
- Able to cope with basic conditions
- Physically fit
- Love and respect for animals

Program Highlights

Contribute to wildlife conservation and work closely with indigenous Costa Rican animals such as macaws, sloths, jaguars, ocelots, monkeys, tapirs, white-tailed deer, and more.
Provide daily care (with tasks like preparing food, feeding animals, cleaning their habitats, and monitoring their health) for over 500 animals under the guidance of a dedicated team.
Assist with facility maintenance and various chores around the sanctuary such as repairing, cleaning, planting, installing, building, painting, and reforesting.
Participate in environmental education and ecological tourism programs, raising awareness about the importance of wildlife conservation.
Start your volunteer experience at one of the top schools in the country, enjoying a week of Spanish language immersion that includes 20 hours of lessons, Latin Dance, and Costa Rican cooking classes.
