Program Overview

Travel to Oaxaca—Mexico's artistic, culinary, and cultural capital, for this Global Citizen Adventure program! You will volunteer with a women's cooperative to support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDG) 1 - No Poverty, 4 - Quality Education, and 8 - Decent Work and Economic Growth. Travelers on this program will explore historic Oaxaca, visit weaving cooperatives, adventure to ancient ruins, and hike to a petrified waterfall. The itinerary includes cooking classes, walking tours, concerts, and museums. The magic of Mexico will come to life on this 7-day adventure.

Our unique, online, pre-departure global service-learning and citizenship course will prepare you to make the most of your time in Mexico. You will learn the destination's history and culture, the mission and vision of our partners, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. This experience is designed to foster the development of educated, compassionate global citizens and leaders.

What makes a GCAC program different from other travel experiences?

GCAC focuses on travel service learning. We offer transferable college credit and the chance to earn the President's Volunteer Service Award. Scholarships are available for participants demonstrating need from rural and/or economically disadvantaged areas.

Do I need to speak Spanish to participate?

No language skills are necessary, although we do encourage practicing your Spanish to better interact with our local partners and hosts.
